ISLAMABAD: Amid rapid geo-political developments taking place in the region, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to embark on a visit to Iran.

"Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will pay a two-day official visit to Iran from 11th to 12th of the current month," a diplomatic source told dawn.com

Diplomatic sources added that during the two-day official visit, PM Nawaz would hold official talks with Iranian president Hasan Rouhani at the President's office on May 11.

Bilateral relations, the regional political situation and various protocols would come under discussion, sources said.

Prime Minister Nawaz is also expected to pay a call on Iranian grand spiritual leader Ayatollah Khomeini on May 12.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Commerce Minister Khurram Dastagir and Adviser to the PM on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz are also expected to accompany the premier on his visit.

Sources said both sides are expected to discuss the Pak-Iran gas pipeline during official level talks.

Furthermore, the situation in Syria, Afghanistan and Middle East would also be discussed between the Pakistani and Iranian leadership.

Yeah!

We have gas shortage here in my city atleast.

Energy crisis is going up like crazy...Nawaz has better reputation doing business, but Zardari is hopeless case. Non country give anything on credit to PPP govt.

Well we finished the pipeline on our side, as you well know.
So it is all up to you. The ball is in your court.

We love to have the project finished and expand our economic and strategic ties with Pakistan.
Dude you guys are actually burning your gas reserves just to get to the petroleum !!!

Make us an offer we can't refuse. ;)

As far i know, Nawaz Sharif's Saudi trip was taken as negative by certain section of society, and now they are praising same man, whom they labeled as selling Pak army and nukes for $1.5 billion. plus lot more.......
At the same time, i'm glad that remaining section of society is not equally crazy, otherwise we would be watching tango of crazies.

I wish all the best to Nawaz Sharif, that may he be able to negotiate best price, which suits a long term contract, and hope considering greater Pakistani interest, friendly opposition would demand, for transparency in the deal.

Last but not least, what about the sanctions and would Indian still be part of it or not? and why not?

Our Prime Minister is acting in the interests of all other countries except ours when it comes to IP. Pakistan needs to have the IP pipeline completed to deal with its energy crisis and the fact that we need to have deeper, stronger relations with Iran.

It's always nice to see a nice, sane Pakistani. Wish there were more of you guys around.
In reality, there should be nothing preventing Iran-Pakistan cooperation in every field, science, military etc etc

Most want neutrality in the middle east and the pipeline to be done but unfortunately most have no say in the matter.

If our economy was strong, it would have given us the freedom to make such decisions. Unfortunately we are at the mercy of foreign powers which don't want us to serve our nation interest for their geopolitical goals. Isolating Iran will be detrimental to Pakistan. We have no beef with them nor we have a beef with the Iranians or Turks. We need to have a functional alliance with Iran as its our neighbour and we share historic cultural and economic ties with it.

Its not about the economy as much as it is about lacking the initiative. There are nations that have been in much worse state of affairs than us and were at the mercy of their enemies, yet today they have risen to become powerful enough to not only make their own decisions in accordance with their national interests but also exercise influence on other nations and challenge the authority of others. A example of this is China and Russia. Why??? Because they took the bold initiative to do what was in their national interests, regardless of what others thought or if they were to become isolated in the process, but they didn't let any fear stop them because they put the interest of their future generations before anything else.

The problem with us is that we are content with our pathetic state of affairs. We celebrate whenever someone throws a few crumbs our way and we happily serve them until they scrub the floor with us and we are of no use to them anymore. We have this sick mentality that "God will provide for us through our Muslim brothers" or that the "Arabs will donate some money, so no worries and lets all just be a bunch of lazy sissies and do whatever someone else tells us to do".

We don't have the balls, we never were a independent nation and we never will be until and unless we grow a pair and stop giving a rats *** of what some other nations/peoples might think of us or might do if we took the steps to do what best serves Pakistan and our future generations.

They had strong leaders, we don't!

Leaders come from the people. If our leaders are satisfied with the current state of affairs in Pakistan then im certain that the common man too has no objection.
