Chennai: As future combats are predicted to be 'non contact wars', India was focussing on developing robotics, underwater vehicles and unmanned systems, a top Defence official said here today.

"Tomorrow's wars are going to be non contact wars.. We are focussing on unmanned systems and robotics. Autonomy levels have to change. After having achieved some skills in Earth's surface, we are focussing on underwater vehicles," DRDO Director General Avinash Chander said.

DRDO had done sufficiently in radars segment that 80 per cent of radar equipment required for the armed forces was provided by the organisation, he said in a speech at the 55th Institute Day of IIT Madras here.

Scientific and academic institutions must focus on innovation and not on repeating experiments and reproduce products, said Chander, who is also the Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister and Defence Secretary (R&D).

"We have been excellent survivors. India has been surviving in technology. From catching up with technology, India should be a leader in technology," he said.

Another dream shown by DRDO chief....

Not possible

Machines can subdue, the ground still has still to be held.

In any case since when have scientists started dictating tactics ?

Possibly looking for an increased budget allocation ?

The point is to increase the survivability of soldiers. In the distant future, the war front will be won by machines, while command staying in the hand of humans. Or machines will provide vital information to the troops to reconsider their strategy.

Believe it or not, the future is heading that way. The same reason the predator is modified with hell fire missiles.

with mere 30 to 50 Billion in research and Failed universities (In terms of research and papers) this dream will remain a dream.

A healthy financing is required on R&D and use all fat *** professors to write papers and do the research or just find a middle school teaching jobs .

apparently,he is right.and we're already witnessing it.nearly half dozen country already built/building their UCAV,UGV and AUV.and the trend shows that its much easier to deploy and more benefit can be incurred from it.

dream will become reality eventually. ICBM and SSBN also used to be a dream for India but DRDO made that a reality

DRDO could only do it once they roped in scientists from ISRO. Anyway I am not saying they cant do it, but they will take another 100 yrs to do that.

Thank you

But any amount of technology cannot replace the relevance of a man. Boots are needed on the ground.

To take your argument further , after a hell fire missile has been used , what next ?

Machines & technology can be jammed or made to give mis information.

i think your forecast lacks logic, now DRDO is picking up the pace, its DRDO 2.0 now

The key question is, what is DRDO doing about it.

Can it survive the future or be disbanded and sold off to private and more efficient conglomerates?

Will it be strong enough to produce military equipment that can protect India? I don't think so.

Dear DRDO chief ,
from last few years I really don't understand the purpose of this much media appearance
. I know media is byte hungry but they get it if you give them the chance.

With all due respect Sir ,Why not let the academic speeches and PR exercise job for the retire Chief ??? And you spend more time on your job.

And you try to concentrate on
- giving your that time to projects in hand which are ages late.
- try spending your time to talk with the guies in the organisation that your lead than the guies in press.
- try improving management and accountability.
- try talking to Forces about their requirements and your ideas.
- Try not to give the future information which is absolutely not needed.

And if everything is already done spend that time with your family. Just stop appearing in the Press.

PS : this is my personal opinion.
