MANILA, Philippines - A Spanish firm was declared winner in the bidding for the supply of three medium lift fixed wing aircraft worth P5 billion.Defense Undersecretary Fernando Manalo told The STAR a notice of award has been issued to Airbus Military, one of the two firms that submitted offers for the project.“The notice of award was issued to Airbus last week,” he said. “The contract for the medium-lift fixed wing aircraft is now being prepared.”Air Force spokesman Col. Miguel Okol said the aircrafts will complement their C-130s and allow them to fly more missions.“As a whole this will enhance the total lift capability of the country,” he said.

The first of the three aircraft will be delivered in August 2015, while the second one will arrive in March 2016. The Air Force is expected to receive the third aircraft in September 2016.Airbus Military offered to supply C-295 planes for P5.29 billion, lower than the approved budget of P5.3 billion. The other bidder, PT Dirgantara Indonesia, was disqualified because its offer was not compliant with the technical specifications.Airbus said the aircraft is the most capable and versatile transport and surveillance aircraft.“The air assets can carry up to nine tons of payload or up to 71 personnel, at a maximum cruise speed of 260 kt or 480 km/h,” Airbus added.

O MAN YOUR HEADINGS PAF AND PN always look like Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan NAvy to Me. Kindly use full phrases.

Please change your airforce name. PAF is famous for Pakistan Airforce, that acronym doesn't suit Philippines airforce. I suggest "PPAF" for future uses so it doesn't confuse us.

Since Philippines as a country is older than Pakistan and Philippines Air force as an organization is older than Pakistan Air force, if you want, it should be Pakistan changing the name of its Air force and not Philippines :).. So probably you should refer to Pakistan Air force as PKAF going forward :)

So, PT Dirgantara Indonesia and Airbus offer the same plane (C-295) ? With that slight price differences...I bet there is some insider that played something "not right" here ...

This winglet version of CN-235 MPA is much better (equipped with torpedo, missile, and more cost efficient)

A newly built ATR-72 with good stress airframe and wings can take it better with two weapon pylons under each wing and two under fuselage.

ATR 72 is a larger plane...must be more expensive....and.why dont they compete then to supply philipinos ? it must be because the price parameter. ATR 72 is also not designed as a military plane at its first design work, it is a civil plane with modification.

Even USA prefers CN-235: USA Coast Guard and USAF (for special operation)
