What's new

India Developing, but still a long way to go

Do you even know what the problem is?

no- they were focussing on inflation control

Must be that I am a numbnut since thou knowest all. Having had to audit over a dozen infra giants by now and shaping up their statements- yes I know what the problem is.

^^

The N-E is important but I'm sorry I disagree re: prioritising it to the top. N-E should get it's tea, teak, water resources and specially oil & gas, in order. N-E is not as densesely populated either. Projects there take time re: hilly terrain and hostile, anarchist population. Pls. don't go ballistic, but I won't put in top 3 priority.

To me, priority should cash-flow, depopulation of the Ganga cowbelt to the DMIC-Narmada-Rajasthan canal enabled semi-arid western frontier. The over-streched, stressed-out, eastern UP-Bihar cowbelt can not sink but knock India's growth yet. Also, Eastern Corridor can be a big stress buster.

Then un-lock the caol, oil & gas in the Guj.-Rajasthan- Indian Gulf's and THE GULF.
Then, I'd bring water to the south. Water projects take time but will boost already booming south.

Mmm, I'm talking about recent times, 2012-onwards.

It'll come but not yet, the ham handed measures to prop the rupee would have done us in, ad-hoc measures can kill investor sentiment faster than anything else.

I wouldn't call rate cuts ham handed measures. The tweaking of monetary policy is usually the first resort for central banks looking to curb inflation.

At the moment it would indeed not be optimal. Its just that FSAs which take 4 years more to materialize from the date/time they were supposed to be inked out gets to the infra companies- check out which sector has the largest percentage of risk associated/non-performing debts.

What exactly is a FSA? A flexible spending account? If so, how are they relevant in the Indian situation?

Re the bolded part: Let me guess, real estate?

Yes infra sector.

Oh hell no, Basic fuel supply agreements facilitated by the govt. :omghaha:

Don't count on it. The NE's project, SARDP-NE, is running at a snail's pace. The lamentable part is that interest rates, the environmental ministry and excessive rate tape, high cost of capital and laggard FSAs have brought it to a point where hardly any progress is being made. This projects significance should become clear to all in economic terms and in other areas after taking a look at the two diagrams given below. This is one project that needs to be prioritized even more so than the industrial corridor.

@Abingdonboy Give it a look.

No doubt this project too needs to be fast tracked. But to be fair sir I don't think one cane may statements like "x is more important than y" in this case. The DMIC will have a noticeable impact on the Indian economy and India as a whole. Yes this SARDP-NE project is highly signifcant in its own right though.

The DMIC's success being replicated across India is a given though:

Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor | Approved - SkyscraperCity

Chennai Bangalore Industrial Corridor - Proposed - SkyscraperCity

Bangalore - Mumbai Industrial Corridor - SkyscraperCity

Startup Village Kerala

Startup village – 2nd in World to have 1Gbps Internet connection

Dangerous, I am nervous to see all those octogenraian, old-time folks in the vid.

While Kerala's Gulf connection and politics has thrown up a genuine, Global, literate, connected and enterpreneurial generation next; they may lose out to the oldies stealing their powerfull new ideas.

Just a word of caution.

I hope all these corridors come into fruition. It'd be interesting to see them compete with each, a competition which can only be beneficial for India.
