Panaji: Indian Air Force is in the process of procuring 126 HAL Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Air Chief Marshal S P Tyagi said here.

"The aircraft would be procured towards the end of this decade and no specific deadline is set for it," Tyagi told reporters during a ceremonial passing-out parade at INS Mandovi, Goa.

"We will make a request to many countries for procuring LCA's. The total estimated budget for this procurement cannot be mentioned at this moment," he said.

"Indian economy is growing at a reasonable rate and under such circumstances we will have to purchase technology that will give us reach and which is within our budget," Tyagi said.

When asked to compare Indian Air Force with its US counterpart, in view of the recent joint exercises, Tyagi said "we cannot compete with the US as their requirements are different from ours."

On the strength and vigilance of the armed forces in the border regions, Tyagi said "Kargil cannot happen again."

Asked about the proxy-war unleashed by terrorists in the country, he said, "terrorism has to be tackled on different fronts and that does not mean that we should stop our diplomatic talks with the neighbouring countries."

There you go, if anyone doubted the LCA project, it's on and rolling. The first 40 have already been ordered and the AF's willingness to purchase nearly 86 more by the end of the decade shows that the project is a great technical and commercial success.

I dont want to debate this here.

Thanks,

Sooo a lot of AC would be inducted in Indian AF there would be combination of i 6-8 aircrrafts and the ageing would go scrap. In this way India would save its pilots too its really ridiclous to train pilots on old planes i think there is a HAL trainer too.But India hasnt finilized its 200 fighter deal yet ( I also think its a lunar landing ) every one is after Indian billion of $$

Considering that the years of LCA research have yeilded quick successes CAT and HJT projects, and viewing the time & money spent from 1989 onwards on the LCA, I'ld be more than ready to debate "for". Not here though. :blahblah1:

HAL Dhruv has 16 varients including some civil varients.

So prices are definately gonna differ.

May be we can wait for the Indo-Chilien deal and let's see what price India charges Chilie for each of the military heli.

HAL bagged an order from ONGC for 3 Dhruv's this year and they priced them Indian Rs.100 Crore for the 3 babies.

Thanks,

Miro

The team is named as Sarang.

Sarang is the first Indian Air Force helicopter formation display team and one of the 3 Heli. formation display teams in the world. The team flies three HAL- ALH (Advanced Light Helicopter) Dhruv (North Star) helicopters from Bangalore. The word "Sarang" means Peacock in sanskrit and is chosen for it is the national bird of India. The Birds beauty and grace is legendry in Indian mythology. The crew and aircraft belong to the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment of the IAF, which is facilitating the entry into service of this new helicopter.

Miro

:D Dont call me munna yaar i am experienced i am also a member in other forums but it was really surprising to know that Dhruv have 16 varients why dont they add some more like
low altitude
medium altitude etc :p:
i think you they combine them there would be only 3-4 varients :D
e.g.,
Civil Variant ,VIP & Commuter >>>>Comertial and VIP varient
Maritime role
Armed Role+Coast guard because India is mostly covered with sea
Relief and rescue it also includes the ambulance role and others
