US Apologizes to Pakistan For Salala Attack

So are you acknowledging that TTP was never an American Ally but a pathetic conspiracy theory invented by Zaid Hamid to explain Pakistan's failure in controlling these Taliban beasts? :flame:

No, you're just making a strawman argument. If US is against TTP, why don't they take care of the TTP hiding in Afghanistan?

When you negotiate, always ask for the moon. If you are good at it, you know the first demand is always rejected. hence, the ridiculous fees Pakistan was demanding. And Pakistan knew that. The bottom line was that the army was demanding the apology and the PPP govt was under pressure to support it. It was more for the morale of the armed forces and the ordinary Pakistanis.
And when we got the apology, we also got US $1 billion released for the military alone. ANd also the agreement that no weapons will be allowed to transit.
Lets be realistic, in these times Pakistan did not get a bad deal out of it. After 2014, when Uncle Sam does not need us than it will be next to impossible to get anything out of them.

SMC dear,

TTP is a common enemy for both US and Pakistan. Based on empirical analysis, majority of TTP members are in Pakistan. A relatively small number is in Kunar province of Afghanistan. These are the TTP goons who mostly fled from Swat bajore area when Pak army launched the cleanup operation. Mullah fing radio is one such example.

Kunar province is much worse for American logistic teams compared to N Wazirastan's troubles for Paksitani logistics

NATO did deploy troops in Kunar earlier in the conflict but then they pulled them out as it was really difficult to support them.

The easiest way to finish off TTP in Kunar is that Pakistan launches hot persuit (in coordination of NATO forces). TTP in Kunar can be wiped out sooner than we kicked out these bastards from Swat Bajore and South Wazirastan.

Bottom line is that Pakistanis should not do finger pointing but raising their military role and their voice in the NATO command.

peace.

Blah blah..

You guys are really living in your own imagination where your version of the story is what happened.. all media outlets, save bharat's, have already mentioned that US apologized to Pakistan. The word 'apology' was what was used from day one. You can either continue to stay in denial and delusion, or come out in the real world and accept the facts.

BTW, even India's media outlets are calling this an apology. Though I have see more pieces coming out in Pakistani media about why this is not the apology Pakistan was looking for than any other place.

Don't think we ever asked that.
Check the news about your parliament's resolution around relations with America..

You know nothing about negotiations, do you? How often do two sides negotiate with both expecting to have ALL their demands met?

Still waiting to find out what demands really DID get met ;)

The idea is to co-ordinate drone strikes, not stop them.. don't think you have any idea what you're talking about. And we don't know if these strikes were co-ordinated or not, because that'll always be kept a secret. Previously they weren't co-ordinated, as we know.
 You just called your parliament, Gen Kayani, your Prime Minister, your president and foreign minister a liar...

Really, not sure if trolling or serious. Or just choosing to be plain delusional. Not sure where you were for the 7 months when the supplies were stopped. Or that we got an apology (and yes, that's what happened - unless you choose to be delusional).

Btw, just to bring this up again..

I was talking about how you guys continue to contradict yourself, i.e. you say that Pakistan supports Taliban/Al Qaeda/Haqqanis but Pakistan is subservient to US. You REALLY don't see the problem with such an argument - the very obvious inconsistency?

Your response was that Pakistan does both and that there are multiple power centers in Pakistan.

Clearly, Pakistan CANNOT do both. By using the word 'Pakistan is doing x', you're making Pakistan a monolith, in which case you have a straightforward contradiction. Either Pakistan army is doing y or civilian government is doing z, not Pakistan is doing X..

So please tell me, who is doing what? Who is being subservient and who is supporting these groups you mention? Choose your answer very carefully, because it'll be easy to dissect almost any answer.

If you don't have an answer then quit the crap about how Pakistan is being subservient.. how does supporting these group translate into being subservient?

Its very simple dude.. There are multiple power centers in Pakistan as I said before. Some of these power centers compete against each other for coming out on top. a good example that shows this divergent behavior is the memogate scandal where one of these power centers asked for America's help against the other one. Since each of these power centers is a representative (formal/informal) of a significant part of Pakistan, their actions are termed as being actions of Pakistan. You are right, that at this time, since some of these actions are extremely divergent, Pakistan as a monolith is coming across like a person with a multiple personality disorder..

I think Pakistan has not got anything out of this except a spin story around apology, carefully released on 3rd of July so that no American rejoinders come out immidiately (4th July). Seriously, what were Pakistan's demands
1. Unconditional apology (you got Clinton with a non apology and a spin fest)
You can argue semantics all you want, but as has been reported in the majority of the Western and Pakistani press, 'sorry' was taken as an apology, given the context in which it was used.

2. Justice for those involved in the strike ( Like that is going to happen)
Perhaps not publicly, though the chain of events that led to the attack happening in the first place has been analyzed and will be rather unlikely to occur again, given the Pakistani reaction, so a purpose was certainly served and an advantage for Pakistan gained.
3. Increase in Transit Fee (Nothing)
The US is releasing between 1 to 2 Billion USD in pending CSF reimbursements, which ends up totaling more than the transit fee charge, so I'd say that one way or the other Pakistan obtained the 'fees' it was looking for.
That did not happen, and was unlikely to change without a significant escalation by Pakistan (UN and/or ICJ or shooting down the drones).
Dont know what ground Pakistan stood...
Pakistan got about 50% if what it was looking for - given than the final outcome was always going to be a 'compromise', not too bad.
I do not expect people like you to not know the importance of accompanying words on the verb in question. After all, One can even say "I am sorry that you are so foolish".. Does not make it an unconditional apology despite the use of word Sorry... Does it?
But Clinton did not say 'I am sorry that you are foolish', she said 'sorry for the deaths and mistakes made' - the context makes it an apology.
Thats a cop out.. Didnt Panetta make a comment about Price Gouging.. Am sure that was not based on comments from Pakistani members on defence.pk
Ask Panetta about that - Pakistani officials have clearly, and officially, stated that there was never any $5000 demand on the table. US officials have not stated officially that such a demand was placed on the table, all we have are insinuations and anonymous sources claiming this and that. Seems to me that the $5000 story was planted in the media by the US to whip up anger against Pakistan.

It call comes down to what follows post apology, re-opening of routes, checking that's it....rest is same, relations are still strained, drone attacks are still going on. This should also be stopped then it will have major impact on international scenario.

Though I have see more pieces coming out in Pakistani media about why this is not the apology Pakistan was looking for than any other place.
The pieces in the Pakistani media (most of them) calling this a 'non apology' fall into two categories:

1. The 'liberal fascists' looking to bash the Army and the nationalists by calling this a 'capitulation' and therefore looking to shame the Army

2. The 'ultra nationalists' that are taking a maximal position

Hillary didnt Apologize..
She said sorry..
There is a difference between the two....

Very true ... "sorry" is etymologically related to "sorrow".

An expression of sorrow does not amount to an admission of culpability.

In this case, the US says that "mistakes" were made by "both sides".

So what? whats the issue here? What does your postmortem of words leads to? That Hillary didn't say 'Sorry' seriously or she was just joking about it,, or maybe she was drunk at that time? Or did she immediately after saying sorry whispered 'Fück you Pakistan' (and only you heard it) to nullify her earlier sorry?

hhahahahaha. Bravo!

What a great response to the Indian eggers and the Islamist egg-ies.

In your face you Pak haters! In your face.

Keep up the good work.

No, you're just making a strawman argument. If US is against TTP, why don't they take care of the TTP hiding in Afghanistan?

Why would they need to hide in Afghanistan when they fully control the FATA territory of North Waziristan?

Please stop repeating Zaid Hamid's nonsense.

Just because US withdrew from Kunar province because it had no strategic value, nor any major population centers, that gave Zaid Hamid this golden opportunity to invent this buffonish conspiracy theory that all TTP are in Kunar Province.

Get a grip of reality.

Pakistani Taliban are in Pakistan.

Whats next? India supporting the Swat Taliban and they are hiding in Indian Kashmir?

Quick question... from where did Taliban attacked when they captured our troops and behead them.... also where is fazlullah hiding???

It does sadden me that so many Pakistani's on here appear satisfied with the 'apology' which wasn't a apology.

Let's see what has happened:

  1. The US has not apologised for its actions in the Salala attack.
  2. GoP has not been able to secure the transit fees for NATO trucks that it was pushing for.
  3. The GoP has not been able to negotiate a stop to the drone attacks - which was something we wanted according to those involved.
So having made this brouhaha since day one, and then failing to walk away with these guarantees just makes us look totally pathetic and discredited. How anyone can do their best to argue otherwise, I simply don't know.

We seemed to be on strong footing from the off, then collapsed like a pack of cards when the US only said sorry for the loss of our soldiers lives - not for their actions or the attack itself.

And then they thanked us with a drone strike killing 20+ the following day. Yet many here continue to bury their heads firmly in the sand and take umbrage with Indians raising this point.

If Indian members are saying this, why is it troubling you so much? It's the truth. How can you defend the GoP or the military on this? We played chicken and then blew it. It continues the trend of poor decision-making this govt has been responsible for since they came to power.

It's so insluting to the lives of those 24 men who have left heartbroken mothers, widows, children and siblings behind, and we should acknowledge that, not claim this as some sort of victory when it's clearly not.
