A cornered terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is waving the peace flag

In what is being viewed as a tactical ploy, a cornered terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is waving the peace flag, as reports suggested that LeT spokesperson Abdullah Ghaznavis has offered to end 'jihad' in Kashmir.

This statement from the LeT spokesperson comes as a remarkable departure from the traditional position of the group, who plotted the November 26 Mumbai terror attacks, and has always projected fighting a global 'jihad' as its central concern.

These reported remarks came as a surprise since Qari Abdul Wahid, who is now claimed to head the Lashkar's operations in the embattled Jammu and Kashmir, had wrote in December 1999 that the LeT would uphold the flag of freedom and Islam through 'jihad' not only in Kashmir but in the whole world.

Lashkar leaders including Chief Haiz Saeed in December 2008 have since then reiterated this position, given these recent speeches. It is unclear if Ghaznavis spoke with the authorisation of the organisations top leadership.

However, there have been signs that the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) -- the LeT’s parent political-religious organisation, has been seeking to distance itself from its armed wing in an effort to evade sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) last month.

In an interview given on January 9, 2009 JuD spokesperson Abdullah Muntazir had said that the two LeT commanders believed to be the masterminds behind the 26/11 attacks -- Zaki-ur-Rehman and Zarar Shah, were not connected with his organisation.

Lakhvi’s relationship with Saeed is believed to have been strained ever since 2004 over bitter disputes over the use of funds. However, Pakistan spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate stepped in to heal their fissures.

Now, intelligence sources have said that, the LeT appears to be seeking to avoid international pressure by creating a firewall between its military and charitable operations - a ruse used to effect in 2002, after President Pervez Musharraf’s military government proscribed the Lashkar.

Media reports last week had suggested that Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the chief operational commander of LeT was furious at the JuD leadership's decision to publicly disown him in his hour of trial instead of trying to bail him out.

Quoting circles close to the Pakistani authorities involved in grilling Lakhvi to ascertain the LeT's involvement in the Mumbai attacks, The ‘News’ said the commander is "extremely hurt" after a JuD spokesman distanced him and another LeT leader Zarar Shah from the organisation.

peace is an illusion.
there will always be conflicts and wars.:smokin: till human race leaves:cool:

The group exists because of Indian occupation and refusal to resolve Kashmri according to the commitments made by her.

Personally I think it is a good decision to focus on 'peaceful protest' - If the group reemerges as a 'peaceful organization', or one that focuses solely on operations against occupation forces, instead of civilians and terrorism like in Mumbai, it will not be 'squashed'.

Given Hafiz Saeed's statements in this regard, I'd say it is pretty much guaranteed now that he will go free once his detention period is over - there is nothing to link him to Mumbai so far, and he has made his opposition to the attack clear, and distanced himself from acts like those.

Pakistan says it has formally taken control of the main operational facility of a charity allegedly linked to the Mumbai attacks in India, underscoring its ongoing effort to ease international pressure over militancy on its soil.

The Muslim nation had already closed or taken over several offices, schools and other properties of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa charity and detained much of its central leadership. On Sunday, a newly appointed government administrator took over the 75-acre compound in the eastern city of Muridke in Punjab province where the group has conducted much of its business.

India says the banned Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba staged the November attacks that killed 164 people. Soon after, the UN declared Jamaat-ud-Dawa was a front for Lashkar..

In that case, Pakistan will prove once and for all that it is a state sponsor of terrorism. Hafiz Saeed is a terrorist. He needs to be hanged, not given state protection.

Not unless he can be shown to be involved in terrorism, in which cas eth GoP will likely take him to court.

As I said, he will go free since I have heard of nothing implicating him in the Mumbai attacks, and he has allegedly condemned the attacks and distanced himself from them.

Lakhvi and Zarar Shah remain the prime suspects in that case.

No it won't.
What about the terrorism that India sponsors? Pak sponsors terror, it's a terrorist state. India sponsors terror, it doesn't matter? Double standards everywhere, don't expect Pak to sympathise with you if you're gonna play that game.
Even neutral people say there is no innocent party, both sides have torqued off the other, so don't go with that BS making it look like Pak is the big evil beast and India is the butter-wouldn't-melt innocent princess.

A court of law will decide that, not you.

Oh please, I've heard enough of that bollocks.

The LeT has been engaging in Jehad using Pakistani help for decades, and how you guys want "proof" of their involvement.

It would be the biggest joke in the world if it weren't so damn sad.

Pakistan will get its proof alright - its quite obvious that India is currently building a strong case against these guys - but its a crying shame that it took arm-twisting from the only superpower in order for Pakistan to atleast pretend to prosecute a bunch of terrorists.

Every time pressure is put on the GOP to act, a few guys get put into house arrest and released some time later. Its now common knowledge that these guys are treated like national assets by the Pakistani administration - I fail to see why you guys need to even deny it any longer.

Oh and haha - yes, now that LeT is pretending to be a "peaceful" organization, all its past crimes are forgiven! Its a miracle! hallelujah!
