Surface To Air Missiles | Terror in the Sky.

The S-300 system was first deployed by the Soviet Union in 1979 and is regarded as one of the most potent anti-aircraft missile systems currently fielded, at least according to: International Assessment and Strategy Center > Research > Almaz S-300 – China's “Offensive” Air Defense .

The S-300 is a series of Russian long range surface-to-air missile systems produced by NPO Almaz, all based on the initial S-300P version. The S-300 system was developed to defend against aircraft and cruise missiles for the Soviet Air Defence Forces. Subsequent variations were developed to intercept ballistic missiles.
Numerous versions have since emerged with different missiles, improved radars, better resistance to countermeasures, longer range and better capability against short-range ballistic missiles or targets flying at very low altitude. There are currently three main variations: S-300V, S-300P and S-300F. An evolved version of the S-300 system is the S-400 (NATO reporting name SA-21), entering service in 2004.

S-300 uses a range of missiles developed by MKB "Fakel" design bureau (a separate government corporation, aka "OKB-2").

IMHO that makes it rather difficult to agree to a blanket statement that S-300 is obsolete > which system with which missile(s)?

thats the point!
moreover the system was being claimed obsolete based ona rumore thatthe IAF had no difficulties evading them in Syria, as a matter of fact, Syrai did not had the S-300 batteries deployed so the whole discussion goes down!

concluding, the S-300 or it rumored chines copy the HQ-9 are the perfect choice of PA to gt there hands onto. perhaps FT-2000 that is reported to be based on HQ-9 is even better and that it the reason we have been hearing about it since 2003!

regards!

Best I can tell a number of sources including Turkey are saying Greece has given Isreal the S300s or at least the details. Israel has very advanced electronic ability, and when you add what happen in Syria, I would guess the S300s are compromised.

If, given we here know this, you suppose the russians wouldn't be aware of this and wouldn't take counter steps? The game isn't that simple.

therer are no S-300 with Syria sir!

Modern war planes are vulnerable to SAM systems still..

US "stealth bomber" was shot down by SAM in Kosovo war.

Russian Su-27 was shot down by a Parocha SAM system in Georgian war.

Rgds,

Its quite likely that Israel has allready compromised the S300 systems and I expect and any later version that Russia has produced. The only way Russia with a economy only one seventh that of the USA can produced sophisticated military equipment is to market it to other countries and you can be sure Israel will get their hands on it one way or the other. Too many countries out there where the corruption is too bad and the Mossad too good.

Its because they were flying by same route and time for 3 nights in row.

Russian Su-27 was shot down by a Parocha SAM system in Georgian war.
No Su-27 was shot down in that war. These are jets that were shot down:

4 Su-25
2 Su-24
1 Tu-22M

If it was not obsolete why would Russia be fielding more advanced systems such as the S400.

By your logic the U.S. should scrap all F-15s, F-16s, and F-18s immediately and focus on F-22 and F-35 productions, starting this day.

well captain america, wht do you suggest?

Hes got me there, Surface to Air Missiles have their place, in an overall defense, I just have some doubts with the advent of advanced drones they are going to of much worth.

As on today, drones are like 3rd generation attack air crafts..

Not even able for A2A roles..

Remember SAMs can shoot down satellites thru which drones are controlled.
