"In remarks published in the Haber Türk daily yesterday as part of an interview with Gen. Sabri Yirmibeşoğlu, who led the Special War Department in 1971 and also worked to mobilize civilian resistance during Turkey's military intervention on Cyprus in 1974, said: “In Special War, certain acts of sabotage are staged and blamed on the enemy to increase public resistance. We did this on Cyprus; we even burnt down a mosque.” In response to the surprised correspondent's incredulous look the general said, “I am giving an example,” in an attempt to clear things up."

but pakistan army does not burn down mosques and falsely claim that enemy did it?? that is one shameless behaviour, did kemal teach this to them??, sure he did

Propaganda is part of war so i see nothing wrong with this. Good to see religion has no role in the how a military acts. If it directly helps the war effort then burn it down.

i think u can guess now how genocide works too???

Genocide isn't propaganda it is mass killing of humans. The only purpose of it is to wipe out certain groups of people for obscene reasons.

Whether the general is telling the truth or not. The point he is trying to make is war isn't black/white.

guess no one`s a saint after all....

War is war but Muslims should be Muslims... this was wrong on so many levels.

Not that Pakistanis are good Muslims, far from it, unfortunately :(

You don't see anything wrong with this ?? really ?

Perhaps you see something wrong with using acts such as this as arguments every time somebody says that turkish presense (invasion untill now) was too much ?

perhaps you fail to see the big picture...

it is now evident that the turkish leadership DID NOT RESPOND IN AID OF TURKISH-CYPRIOTS, BUT IT HAD A LONG TERM PLAN TO INVADE AND DIVIDE THE ISLAND...

you don't see anyting wrong with the amount of lies been told since then ???

I have only one word for this ... shameful...

of course it isn't black and white, it is a terrible and dehumanising thing, but surely the point in this is different.
I am not shocked by this revelation, as greeks we knew alot of those acts took place as provocation and propaganda in Cyprus and elsewhere, but if I were turkish I would be angry because this truth is SO different to the truth been circulated officialy by turkish leadership for so long.

I trust every self respecting turk will now look upon things with different eyes ..

war is war. One day all Cyprus will be Turkish

You two have a disagreement. Tuahaa says this is wrong, but AZ holds that blackening the name of non-Muslims in the cause of war is O.K.

Yet Tuahaa, if you learned that a mosque in Pakistan had burned down and the P.A. reported to the press, anonymously, that Americans were responsible, wouldn't you join AZ in a protest at the U.S. embassy, even to burning it down "in response"?

And Abu Zolfiqar, since you think this is all O.K., what would your response be if the LeT or Pakistan Taliban declared that you weren't Muslim enough for them and decided to burn down your home, seize your property, and expel you from your home town?

Of course that was the plan. You didn't know we were going move to the “Atilla” line ? That was the original plan to begin with. It was why we broke the U.N. ceasefire. Once we reached that line the military plan put out was complete.

As far as your question. Yes i see nothing wrong with this in the context that it was done as propaganda in the war effort. As far as the morale implications of burning a religious building down i see it is wrong. Just like i see CIA torturing people as wrong and terror proxies targeting civilians as wrong. I also see what greek plan was if the coup succeed as wrong which was to completely wipe out the Turkish Cypriots as Nikos Sampson said in a interview.

According to the Greek daily newspaper Eleftherotipia, which interviewed him on February 26, 1981, he said, “Had Turkey not intervened, I would not only have proclaimed Enosis, I would have annihilated the Turks in Cyprus as well.”

I see why you posted this now.Your contributions to the forum is truly noteworthy. (Btw your source is Zaman) i wouldn't call that a very credible source to begin with. (they are under AKP payroll)
