What's new

Pakistan conducted another successful test fire of indigenously developed Submarine Launched Cruise

Not tactical but sub strategic .
The big guns like Shaheen series carry 100kt + yield warheads, weighing 500 kg to 1 ton, depending on new or old design. Raad and Babur carry warhead of 50+ kt yield weighing about 300kg.
But likewise every Agosta 90b can carry four of these without compromising anti ship role. So in theory there are at least 16 Babur SLCM out at sea at any given time. That's 800 kilotons of blast yield coming from the sea.
Then the land assets will also be available even in case of Indian first strike. Reason is the land based missiles are mounted on all terrain mobile vehicles which can go hide in far off places.
Such well distributed second strike capability will give nightmares to any adversary.
As for India, historically speaking, one could have achieved that with way less staffs!!!

We probably need much larger SLCM/SLBM with MIRV capability and range in excess of 3000 km's to cover all of India, even from international waters.

Bhia why do you want 3000 KM range missile ....??? Indian is not situated at some other continent its next to us ....

Do you even know ~47% of Indian population lives in the coastal states of India and a BIG chunk of Indian economy is based there, even if we take population of only coastal districts of India then ~18% of Indian population is residing in those districts.

Try to understand basically we have a weapon with which we can threat around +25% Indian population (population of coastal districts and districts adjacent to coastal districts) and a very big chunk of Indian economy and defence infrastructure.

plz have a look at this
Indian coastal regions.jpg

keep in mind
  • I have drawn all the circles for 100 KM radius only which mean sub could remain at 300-350 KM distance form Indian coast and can still pose threat of a great magnitude to any target situated within 100 Km at Indian coast again recall ~25% of Indian population reside there and a big chunk of Economic and Defence related infrastructure of Indian in those region
  • I have not circled any potential area of interest for us at eastern coast of India but as a matter of fact even that region is approachable for our subs
  • And If you are thinking about Anti submarine capabilities of India which could obviously pose counter threat than plz note it will not be a very easy task for Indian Navy to locate 1 (or maximum 2 deployed) Pakistani subs in an area of +700,000 Km of deep Ocean stretch from Kerala to Gujarat
dawarka-2-kochi-jpg.242778

so in short current 450 KM range of BABUR SLCM is enough to post credible minimum deterrence by PN

Indians are not here yet !

Oh yes, they are waiting for Rajforthy7 to give them something to wank about !

And, the 50 folks, who own 70% of India's wealth, also live in this region!!!!!

Sorry, but with the Poseidons and Kamortas and Baraks in our arsenal, a subsonic old-fashioned cruise missile poses no threat to us.

You need a SLBM.

First strike capability was enough. Third striking capability doesn't make any sense. You fire on your skull just for once.
Ham bhi tabah , woh bhi tabah.... Every body will live a happy life afterwards.

Mate, not necessary to troll on every thread. It's not the strike rather your comment that does not make any sense. Go study why every major nuclear power has achieved 2nd strike capability.

As per @The Deterrent Pakistan has neither good quality fuel nor a capable and efficient motor for Babur and we are working on Jugars. China isnt helping either.
That's not true and even he didn't know about this test so you see below
this tells us something about our very own members with "inside sources" via Facebook as even they were not aware of the test.
So everyone who claims to have insiders knowledge....may not know everything regardless of what title he or she is carrying on this anonymous forum ;)

An SLCM like Babur stands a better chance than an SLBM. A cruise missile can keep a low profile and be harder to detect...an SLBM's advantages are longer ranges and in order to increase its effectiveness in a well defended environment, it would have to be MIRV. So right now from submarines Pak is better off with these SLCMs rather than a non MIRV SLBM...and for MIRV SLBMs Pak would have to go for nuclear subs first.

Don't worry...next is SLBM in the line...all your wishes will be fulfilled. It is easter so keep making wishes... BTW you guys "wished" for Pakistan's sea-based 2nd strike capability...so we fulfilled that already...

BTW since when a cruise missile became old fashioned especially older than a BM...typical Gangadeshi idiot.

Tell this to Russians,Chinese and Americans, who have state of the art Sub Sonic Cruise Missiles.

This Indian idiot thinks our journey stops after SLCM LOL

And the journey continues... Congrats folks.

Since the test was conducted a while back and announced today, the lack of noise from rats in east and yanks in particular in this time period shows that missile is indeed stealth. They didn't have clue until it was officially announced.

Subsonic cruises are easier to intercept than supersonics. (Detection is another story.)

A subsonic cruise missile has its advantages, which are manoeuvrability, payload and stealth.
But this manoeuvrability is unlike the ballistic case (if possible) which can prevent interception.
The stealth factor is also greatly reduced in the case of a short range SLCM against an advanced navy. There are no mountains in the ocean.

So, a short range subsonic SLCM of an old design poses no threat against our anti-missile systems and dedicated submarine killers in air and water.
