Gujranwala is the dirtiest city in Pakistan probably in the world.
You should visit karachi.

But I have been to Bahawalpur recently. It's clean city, but now they want to expand.
Bahawalpur is a beautiful little city..

I visited it after 15 years and was sorta shocked at the pace it had developed...

Pakistani standard of cleanliness vastly differs from the rest of the world.

Dirtiest would be Karachi/Hyderabad. Rawalpindi and Islamabad are also quite dirty but obviously in relation to Karachi/Hyderabad they're "clean".

"The first picture is from 1983 and second from 1984. The Orangi Pilot Project was an initiative of Akhtar Hameed Khan, a social scientist. He began a "bottom-up community development program" in Orangi which, at the time, was a large slum.

He registered the Orangi Pilot Project as an NGO and then generated funds and plans for the upliftment of Orangi. He mobilised the area’s people and involved them in various self-help schemes aimed at building an effective sewerage and sanitation system, paved streets, low-income housing, schools and medical facilities.

He often got into tussles with the many land-grabbing, extortion and drug gangs operating here. The gangs utilised the area’s religious figures to intimidate him. But the Orangi Pilot Project was a huge success."

If an individual could do it .......... I am sure government(s) could do lot better ....... but only if they were really serious to spend for people and their betterment.

And the thread opened by a baywaqoof has a very baywaqoofana title ......... "Which city is ....." its not like we have overcome the problem and start using "was".....

Has to by my city sadly, Karachi! These PPP goons turned the city into a mess. Mustufa Kamal did a damn good job in reshaping Karachi though.

Some parts of Multan and Lahore...are the dirtiest places I have visited so far. Karachi was fairly clean but I just stayed in DHA and its close surroundings ...however Clifton beach was really dirty and I couldn't take heart to walk bare footed there.

Mustafa Kamal and Naimatullah of Jamat-e-Islami did a good job. The question is will the people of Karachi vote for Mustafa Kamal and PTI or stick to PPP and MQM as usual?

For all those who are saying "Karachi" understand that Karachi is a HUGE city! It is among WORLDS 10 LARGEST cities so you cannot categorize it as being dirty or clean judging on the part you visited. While there are slums like any other large city, there are posh areas as well. All in all, it might be really dirty but the dirtiest in Pakistan? I do not think so!! (and NO i am not from Karachi)

As for the dirtiest, in my opinion, it have to be Hyderabad. If you travel to Hyderabad by train there is NO WAY you can miss the station as the staunch smell (if you happen to be traveling with open windows or are out in the car for some "awaragardi") will welcome you to Karachi. The most common reaction will be that you will look out of the window to see what it is and trust me, for next 10-15 Km the train goes through the dumps with no station in sight. Like, after smell you think you are near the city now but it is still 10-12 km of dirt and dumb you have to go through.
Similarly go to old city, their main parks etc, everything is just so so dirty!

And

I say this all after being in Gujranwala etc!

Not Mustafa Kamal he just completed projects started by Naimatullah Khan.

Mustafa Kamal is a bad mouthed goon nothing more.

Nehmatullah Khan dug up the whole city before handing over Mayorship to Kamal so that he has to complete the projects. Kamal did good job later on.

Everywhere is dirty.

Being poor is no excuse to be dirty. Why isnt there a national cleaning campaign?
