Lord Nazir Ahmed to send two planes load of winterised tents to Pakistan



LONDON Oct 27 (APP): A member of House of Lords of Pakistan origin Lord Nazir Ahmed said on Tursday he planned to send two planes load of 400 tonnes emergency relief supplies mainly winterized tents to Pakistan on Friday.

Addressing a press conference in his office he said the supplies had been collected in cooperation of a number of agencies likeShelterbox, Rotary International, Lifeline, Kashmir Youth Project,World Vision,ADRA, Plytheswood Trust.

The total value of the cargo would be over 4.5 million pounds.The two flights will leave here Friday and would arrive in Islamabad on Saturday. The expenses of one chartered flight would be borned by donations from the private individuals within the North West of England while the second plane had been provided free by Virgin Atlantic.

He said these tents would be sufficient to provide shelter to 50 to 70 thousand people.

Lord Ahmed said he would also send two additional plane loads of the relief goods to Pakistan and the Virgin Atlantic had agreed to provide these planes free of cost as well.

He praised Pakistan High Commission for its efforts in facilitating the expatriates to travel to Pakistan and to raise funds following the worst natural disaster.

Lord Nazir later left for a week-long trip to Pakistan where he would ensure coordination with the aid agencies, that the relief goods brought by the planes were delivered to the quake victims
