Government is providing relief to inaccessible earthquake affected areas: Nisar Memon

ISLAMABAD, Oct 27 (APP): Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production, Nisar A Memon Thursday said that government in coordination with Pakistan Army is carrying out a massive relief and rescue operations in the earthquake hit areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP for providing maximum relief to affected areas specially in the inaccessible and remote areas.

He was talking to APP after attending a briefing here at the Directorate General Logistics Camp by Pakistan Army, for the immediate relief and rescue operations in the earthquake stricken areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP.

Nisar A Memon highly appreciated the role and services of the Pakistan Army and Directorate General Logistics for mitigating the sufferings of the earthquake affected people of Azad Kashmir and NWFP.

He added that Pakistan Army aviation pilots are airdropping relief goods and rescuing and airlifting the injured persons of the earthquake stricken areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP for the treatment in various hospitals and medical camps.

Nisar A Memon said that inaccessible earthquake areas of Calawan and Jaboor would be supplied relief goods through helicopters which are situated at a high altitude.

Memon added that Pak Army pilots and the pilots of the friendly countries participating in the relief and rescue operations are providing relief to the earthquake affected people from sun rise to sun set for the relief of the quake affecteees.

Brig Altaf of Directorate of Logistics was also present in the briefing.

Lt. Col. Tariq briefed the Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defence about the relief and rescue operations undertaken by the Pakistan Army Aviation in the earthquake stricken areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP.

Senator Nisar A Memon was told that Pakistan Army and other helicopters of friendly countries are supplying tents, blankets, foods and medicines to the earthquake Nawsheri, Khaghan, Chakowti, Pando, Chinari, Ghari Dupta and other remote and inaccessible areas.

“It is not only a tragedy for Pakistan but a human tragedy”, he remarked.

Nisar A Memon also appreciated the cooperation and support to Pakistan by its friendly countries in hour of its need.

Lt. Col. Tariq said that Pakistan Army Aviation has set up air bases at Mansehra, Balakot, Paras, Batgram , Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Rawalakot from where the helicopters are supplying relief goods including tents, blankets, medicines and food items for onward supply of the earthquake affected forward areas.

“We for the past one week are supplying relief goods to the more than 70 remotest earthquake affected areas Paras, Muzaffarabad and upper Neelum valley”, he remarked.

Col Tariq said that relief is being provided even when “we receive a single telephone call from any earthquake affected person.”

He added that on the special directives of DG Logistics GHQ Maj. Gen. Jamil Haider is providing relief to all forward earthquake affected areas.

Besides the supply of relief goods by air, the Director General relief camp is also supplying 20 trucks loads of relief goods by road to earthquake affected areas of NWFP and 50 trucks in the Azad Kashmir areas.
