ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Assailants armed with rockets and assault rifles attacked a newly built checkpoint near the Afghan border in Pakistan before dawn Saturday, killing all eight security forces, officials said.

All eight soldiers guarding the checkpoint were killed, said a senior security official on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

He said Pakistani forces backed by helicopters were trying to track down the assailants.

The checkpoint was set up this week as part of Pakistan‘s efforts to stop insurgents from sneaking into Pakistan or going back to Afghanistan , where U.S. forces have been trying to root out rebels.

However, terror suspects also often target security forces.

We are fighting another mans war, though if we back up, terrorists will get more power. If we go fight in with the planned operations than those Mullah MMA will start their politics. How should this issue be dealt?

No offence.

But if the Pakistani Government wouldn't have backed taliban then the Pakistani Armed Forces would have a peace on the Afgan border.

They are not fighting another man's war. They are paying the price of wrong policies of their own Government.

Pakistan needed Taliban back then just like US needed them, US backed them more then Pakistan. The Reagan administration also funded Osama bin Laden. They gave them stinger.

Throughout the decade, the US and its allies spent $10 billion on this war, "the largest cover operation in history" according to Covert Action Quarterly.

US backed Taliban just for their Anti-Soviet interests.

Pakistan started backing Taliban after that. When Taliban came in power, Pakistan was the only country to recognise and have diplomatic relationship with them.

US gave them stingers but PA officials taught them how to use it.

PA/PAF officeres were training Taliban for a long time.

I don't want to debate.

My whole point is this is not other man's war as webby mentioned.

actualy mate

officialy speaking...."WHAT STINGERS?" the USA could not be seen supporting the afgans as that would be direct confrontation with the USSR. the CIA was given a blank check by the president and carried out all the work. CIA used the ISI as a proxy to supply train and organise the difrent factions. after the USSR withdrew it still left behind pro communism gurilla fighters to the north (the all so infamous northern alliance) and supplied them.

Pakistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia where all that was left supporting the south side. as in the media the USSR withdrew and america won and thats all the american people cared about.

then slowly the three remianing parties seperated in their own causes. the saudis supported difrent men the irani difrent and the pakistani taliban. the taliban matter was still under ISI and covert and slow and small supply of arms where being given. untill the government of pakistan got sick of the opium smugling and the pathans flooding into the nation. (the wrong doing ones...) and ordered to increase support and gave them victry but stupid politicians never gave the ISI time to first fully take over the taliban. the taliban was a largely independent body. but then osama came out of no where and took over the taliban.

Pakistan then had to stop arms to the taliban. for which the taliban once took a school bus full of children hostage in return for the resumption of arms to afganistan. this is a well documented event and is posted some where on here aswell....where SSG was used to swiftly eliminate the terrorists.

I am reading a book called The bear trap and another one called Charlie wilsons war and they are about the soviet invasion of afghanistan. The bear trap was written by a senior isi member who was in charge of the whole operation its very interesting... Charlie wilsons war is about the wildest senator who pushed for the mujhideens to get stingers he also madem any covert trips to afghanistan and on the cover of his book there is a picture of him shooting at a machine gun

Yau guys. Dont you think its ironic how Osama came out of no where and became the leader of Taliban? I mean wtf was he... that he became the leader in a damn short time.

Think about it........ Dont you think its possible that he is an agent of some country.. and then later betrayed.

I have seen the footage of the attacks on Pakistani forces by Miscreants in response to killing of the women and children and their innocent families who were non combatant civilians, when they were bombed by Pakistani F-16s. I have deleted the vidoe clip which was made available by [Mod Edit: Please do NOT advertise other websites here, especially extremist websites as we neither condone their actions, nor subscribe to their ideologies]
They are not to be called terrorist as the Pakistani Sokesperson announce them as to be Miscreants.... Period.

I know Rahman itspretyy late to comment on this post, but what u r saying justifies what Miroslov said. All this happened bcoz of the short sightedness of the Pak rulers. They never realised that these same venomous creatures can turn against them with equal lethality.

Pakistani security forces and pro-Taliban fighters have clashed for a second day near the Afghan border, leaving four soldiers and 16 fighters dead, a military spokesman said.

A further 19 fighters were captured in Wednesday's fighting in the Shawal area of North Waziristan, said Major General Shaukat Sultan, the spokesman.

Eight fighters and four soldiers were killed late on Tuesday after fighters attacked a military base in Mana, about 50km (30 miles) west of the main town of Miranshah.

Eight more fighters died in clashes on Wednesday, Sultan said.

"Helicopter gunships have been flying in and out of Miranshah towards Shawal since morning," a resident of Miranshah said.

Intelligence officials said three soldiers were injured in a separate overnight attack in the nearby Datta Kheil area.
On Monday, five people were killed by an exploding landmine and two fighters died in a clash with security forces in the same area.

Military officials have said Arab, Central Asian and Afghan fighters are present in the region, and that local tribesmen are showing increasing resistance to the government in the lawless region.

Tensions have been running high in North Waziristan since 200 tribesmen and fighters were killed in clashes last month with Pakistani security forces.
