These ships can also be a nice testing launch base for

Plans for the eventual mid life upgrade for the frigates purchased, are starting to be take effect, the most impressive of which is replacement of the legacy Anti Air missile system with the HQ16.

There is a space for a VLS where the FM90 is currently stored.

Other upgrades are in sensors both Radar and Sonar and also a new battle management system.

There is also a chance for FL3000N anti missile system to integrated as either a stand alone or with the CIWS.

New indigenous towed sonar could also be used.

Plans are still on paper and therefore could change, but we should hear about this in the next couple of years.

Rafi I gave you a positive rating bro, thank you for bringing us all the fantastic news. It would be great to hear about what the plans are for future frigate acquisitions as well, on top of the recent Type54A order.

Like I said in another post, after this program is completed another 6 frigates would be procured. In about a decade larger air defence ships will be looked into.

If anything deserves an upgrade it would have to be the UK frigates we have in our fleet

I feel that we need to MLU these older frigates , Modernized the sensors
and upgrade the SAMs on ships

  • All these antenna whiskers need to go
  • May be a modern Radar /Sensors
  • The deck needs to be cleared of all the "Clutter"
  • SAMs need to be modenized

Some Anti Ship Missiles in rear would be fantastic
Would be eager to see these two System upgrade on Ship

Don't see why a new radar cannot be purchased and added as well

They will be retired as soon as Type 54As become active these will be phased out. They've already retired a couple of them

Makes sense

Agreed. 052s would be ideal size for PN but they are a good 10-15yrs away IF PAKISTAN CAN KEEP ITS ECONOMY UP TRENDING.

In the mean time, PN should try as best it can to update the F-22P with a 16 cells vls and a quad packed missile as well as 6 HQ-10/FL-3000N missiles on each Type 730 CIWS. They along with 4 MIGLEM and 4 Type 054A will be a good bulwark for the surface fleet.

OHP have space of VLS, F-22P will need hull modification to accomodate VLS or there is a SAM/ASHM which is 3 meter in size, then it may be possible to add VLS above Deck.

Well fortunately these wont requires massive RD if you are talking about UAVs UUV a small rc boat is also UUV or UAV and pakistan do have few of the private companies working on drones if the private and army work together this small research will go long as its will not just help army but they will be able to sell private sector all around globe and best part about even if they do JV with china or not and able to make decent product which will be alot cheaper

You talked earlier network centric warfare you need a fast and secure network and currently will Pakistan make sure its safe ?
It's not UUVs and UAVs that would require a massive funding for R&D...Pakistan has been working on UAVs and can afford to work on UUVs as well. The massive funding required to make these into the weapon that I was talking about would be in the software area.

Like swarm behavior for example...essentially a kind of an AI. This is one area where China is researching while Pak is not mainly bcuz Pak's economic woes have it tight budgeted...and whatever remains of the budget is spent on acquiring assets like frigates, corvettes, submarines, etc.(the recent orders of these that Pak made in the last few years).

I'm in agreement with u that Pakistan needs to even the odds with India not by matching quality and quantity on a one to one basis but by asymmetric means by thinking smarter. But in order to do that Pak has to rely on China since it can't explore all the different areas on its own.

One example is China's satellite destroying missiles. So if for example India launches a bunch of military satellites that would give it an edge during a war with Pak. Pak on the other hand wouldn't be able to necessarily match that capability on a one to one basis. Instead Pak can with China's help, develop satellite destroying missiles. This would be a far cheaper approach that would even the odds during the war in terms of India's military satellites capability.

For India's S400 and other extensive SAM systems, an approach like MALD(see below) can be used to detect and overwhelm the SAM systems at a relatively low cost and destroy them with standoff munitions.

I came across this video a while back...I'm not sure if a weapon like this exists but certainly it can be looked into. It shows three different kinds...in my opinion only the second one is worth it. If that can be created then it would be very destructive for IA's armor and mechanized infantry. Watch from the beginning to about 5:00

Though it's a bit exaggerated in terms of its destruction capacity but that second one would prove a powerful and destructive approach nonetheless if Pakistan had these placed(like mining the border areas) in its border areas.

Umkhonto is 3.3M in size with the IR variant having 20km range and the EIR variant having 30km range. 16 Umkhonto EIR along with 12 HQ-10/FL-3000N missiles attached to the 2 Type 730 CIWS (6 on each gun mount) would give the F-22P a real chance in the air defense game to protect against saturation strikes especially if it operates with a Type 054a.

What I would love to see:
1) The above mentioned weapons upgrades to F-22P, along woth a turkish sensor and cms upgrade.

2) An ADA based on the MILGEM offered for the Brazilian tender which has an 8cell vls up front but 4 AShM (but add an 8 cell VLS in the rear (in front of the Hangar, and use Z-9c as the chopper being that its 24ft shorter than SeaHawk allowing for less hangar space). Utilizes the rear vls for quad-packable C-RAM Cheetah interceptors allowing for 8 Umkhonto EIR medium range missiles (30km) and 32 short range Cheetah missiles (10km) and a smaller CIWS above the hangar (AK630).

How much VL-Mica & Sea Captor cost compared to SA SAM?

Price for one system?? And what about VL-Mica price?
approximately £33 million, as in 4 November 2016 UK ministry of defence has placed an order for Sea Ceptor system at £100 million (link), supposedly that order was placed for the three Type 26 GCS (link)

I can not comment about VL-MICA system

off-topic but a nice video of Sea Ceptor Firing from one of the upgraded Type-23 frigate
