Abortion i.e ending pregnancy through medical process or surgical procedures before birth may be valid for certain reasons for example when life of mother is at risk or when there are high chances that child will born with some serious genetics or physical abnormality

I actually want to know your opinions about two specific abortion cases where either parent want particular gender mostly boy or where the child is not legitimate/unwanted or result of unprotected sex . Many couple have 3 or 4 girls and they desire for boy in certain culture (either because they think boys will look after them in their old age as girls get settle with their husband after marriage)as there is no concept of old homes in certain societies.

There is no certain way to establish the gender of kids before pregnancy and you probably know about gender of baby after 15/24 weeks of pregnancy . Should people have freedom to go for abortion/planned miscarriage because they don't want further girls or did not plan for baby ? Its also difficult for child in such situation where no one is ready to welcome them but instead she/he is taken as some burden. Should couple have this choice of abortion in such cases?

All logical opinions are welcome whether religious or non religious :)

Any danger to the life of the mother, go for it. Otherwise, bear with consequences of your 'hanky panky'.

haha true but what if someone do this hanky panky to get boy instead of baby girl because they already have 3/4 girls

or they do this hanky panky for not procreation :D

Despicable!

abortion is surely wrong but address my specific cases . what is best option in such cases boht from perspective of child and parent

.
Simple short answer ---> yes support it. Just like i support the use of contraceptives to avoid unwanted births.

Sanity should prevail, should it not? I always wanted a girl, but Allah gave me two sons. I know in my family girls are difficult to have. My uncle had 7 boys just in the pursuit of a girl. So I stopped there for I knew genetically we are predisposed to have many boys and not girls. Aborting a fetus for ANY REASON other than threat to mother's life is not ethical, at-least for me. During her 2nd pregnancy, some of Trisomy 21 (Down's syndrome) tests came positive. Her gynecologist wanted to do more tests but I refused for a) they were invasive, b) we were happy with whatever Allah had chosen for us. Alahamdulillah, my 2nd son was born completely normal.

Thanks for your answer but ending pregnancy when you get to know the gender of baby will not be killing ? I guess gender of baby is determine at later stage of pregnancy. I may be wrong but I am looking at this question from perspective of those parent who prefer to have boy after having many girls . What should be their option or they have none there but to welcome 4th or 5th girl in family even if they dont want it

You are right syed bhi but I was looking at it from the perspective of those middle class parent who want boy for valid reasons as you know better in our society its boys who look after parent and they have this thing in their mind which make their behaviour cold for unwanted girl. You will feel sad for boht especially with girls because she will not get the love and affection which she deserve as she is unwanted

tough subject....i guess abortion up to a certain point, perhaps 0-7 or 8 weeks.....hard to say. Im not in this field. I just dont support unwanted births.

the hardcore fundos dont believe in contraceptives or birth control or abortion - they have 12 kids which they cant even afford to feed or remember their names -- that pisses me off the most more than anything else

Now this is the problem. Unfortunately, our teachers, our Ulema, our scholars, they have failed to do their job. We must educate people around us and tell them that Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) had no living sons but three daughters. The daughters, in respect of whom our Prophet (PBUH) used to stand up.

Gender cant be determined as early as 8th week of pregnancy. With a very good ultra sound machine and an experienced handler, 12th-13th week.

This is jahalat and people need to be educated about this. Islam talks about middle-of-the-road way.

Gender should not matter. Ok, everybody is allowed to have preferences but to kill an innocent child? That is inhumane.

Children are not illegitimate, our actions can be. Every child deserves its parents love.

In my opinion abortion should be allowed:
In case of rape.
In case the mother of the unborn child faces health issues.
Should be allowed within a span if 120 days.
Should be allowed if fetus is found "defective" as in mutations such as physical abnormalities.
I guess that's all.

I was having discussion with this guy over this subject and he said me its easy for me to label a thing halal or haram without putting myself in shoes of others without understanding their circumstances then it made me think

I personally have seen some old people in my village who either have no kid or had all girls who had married now and settle in different cities and these old people struggling at this stage as no one is there to look after them..neither state nor any old homes when they get sick so syed bhi what is the option for such old people with no sons or without anyone around them to care or look after them when they are sick or helpless?

Once the God delivers a soul to the baby-

In medical terms the heart starts beating than aborting is just plain murder-

Unless ofcourse there is danger to the life or health of the mother-

we are all agree on this thing but what solution we should offer to those who need a son during their old age as we all know our state dont look after old helpless people and no relatives can do this caring job 24/7 especially during long sickness. Its also odd thing for parent to live with married daughters . we may tell them accept whatever you get whether its 5 girls or none but then what?

Contraceptives, hell yeah......... however, Abortion only and only if there's danger to mothers life or fetus has severe defects / genetic abnormalities which guarantee it can't survive or lead a purposeful life......... may the Almighty never put a parent with such a tough choice........ life, no matter at what stage is precious.
