Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin called Romanian authorities “snakes” after they refused to allow a plane on which he was a passenger to enter Romanian airspace as it flew to Moldova.

“Romanian authorities endangered the lives of the passengers on board the S7 airline flight — women and children,” Rogozin tweeted Friday. “Look forward to a reply, you snakes.” He used the Russian word “Gady,” which has no direct translation but can be variously interpreted as reptile, snake, vermin or skunk.

The Romanian foreign ministry confirmed that the incident took place, according tolocal media.

Rogozin is among the Russians hit by Western sanctions imposed after Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea and military intervention in eastern Ukraine. He was on a commercial flight to the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, at the time of the incident.

An online flight tracker showed the plane circled over northeast Hungary, then flew along the Romanian border, before heading through Polish airspace to Minsk, Belarus.

Rogozin, who oversees the Russian defense industry, is known for making belligerent and controversial statements about the West. He suggested earlier this month that there were “Nazi remnants” within NATO.

In a similar incident three years ago, Rogozin threatened to return to Romanian airspace in a Russian bomber, a TU-160, after his plane was forced to divert. At the time he was returning from Moldova to Russia after visiting the pro-Russian breakaway region of Transnistria. He accused Romanian authorities of blocking their airspace in response to a request from the United States.

Western nations have often taken an inconsistent approach to enforcing sanctions, with some Russian officials permitted to travel on government-related business.

Last time this happened, in 2014,he threathened to come back in a bomber next time.Guess he didn't put his money where his potty mouth is.

But nothing beats the "We will show you Kuzka's mother!" comments. Ah, leave it to the Russians! :D

I would assume he is flying from Moscow to Moldova.
So I guess the issue is a route not flying over Ukraine and that would require a trip through Romania.

Yes. His plane was banned from entering the airspace and he was forced to turn back and vent on Twitter and Russian tv,threatening all kinds of actions and sanctions, like he did before. No one cares.

Right...no one cares yet Europe is now screaming mercy and calling sanctions against Russia illegal. Russia imports hundreds of billions from European countries and exports hundreds of billions which includes providing energy and other goods to Europe that help European citizens and industries.

But you're probably right, Romania doesn't care, after all Romania has nothing to offer to Russia, thus they have nothing to lose from sanctions, we don't need your donkeys or wooden horse garages and we can't sell much energy because you guys still use candles.

Love your butthurt. We don't need your energy because we're self sufficient, more so,an exporter of gas starting 2019 2020...now go cry to Bruxelles that we've denied passage to your piglet. The only products EU needs from you are raw materials as you're just a gas station.

Like I said, Romania doesn't need Russian energy because you guys use candles for lighting and donkeys for transportation....to an extent this is the truth. Russia also actually produces things and sells them. Not to mention Russian specialist such as engineers are some of the most sought after in the world with major North American, European, Chinese, Israeli and Indian companies hiring them.

You don't like it but Russia has influence while Romania is a nobody.

Oh yes, I'm gealous, we use candles for heating and donkeys for transportation although the Romanian median wage and per capita incomes are bigger than Russia. You man child you.Now tweet about how powerful you are, like Rogozin the piglet, so you can vent out.
