You are here: Home » International » Pakistan approved Russia's request to use Gwadar port: Chinese

Being allowed to use Gwadar port and joining CPEC are two different things. I don't even know what 'joining CPEC' even means other than to invest in projects within CPEC. There seems to be a lot confusion around Russia and CPEC that needs to be made clear.

Well why do you need to know. Considering the millions of poor and malnourished Indians you should focus closer to home and leave CPEC to those that have a need and want for it. But being a chumcha and doing tamasha seems to be Indian hobbies

Good news for Indians. Indians ally aka Russia is now isolating Pakistan and Pakistan's CPEC officially. :D

This may or may not be true - I would not dismiss such a possibility since I'm in no position to verify. And Pakistani leadership has, of late, been making overtures to Russia so it's possible.

But these arrangements are, IMO, easy to get into but hard to get out of - and the benefits they offer are debatable. As I recall Pakistan had similar arrangements with the US during the Cold War but that was not helpful as expected during conflict. India, on the other hand, never allowed the USSR similar facilities despite seeking their diplomatic and political support in that same era.

Allowing the use of ports, bases, etc. to military forces of other countries (especially in peacetime) is a small compromise on sovereignty and in the long term can create resentment, misunderstandings and contempt between parties. It's not just Pakistan - I would say the same in case India allowed something similar to the US (which thankfully it has not as yet)

In short: a bad long term move.
