Yoga is for rich, lazy people who don't have time for exercise: Karnataka minister

Bengaluru: In remarks that are out of sync with his own government's position, Karnataka Social Welfare Minister Anjanaiah on Wednesday said yoga is for 'lazy' people who do not have time for exercise.

"Yoga is for lazy people, especially people belonging to well to do families. They do not have time for exercise in the open including taking a walk," he told reporters in Bengaluru.

On the contrary, people who work in the fields and sweat it out, do not require yoga, the minister said, even as the Congress government in the state is joining the rest of the country in observing 21 June as International Day of Yoga.

Anjanaiah said more than anything else people should encourage their children to play outdoor games including running and walking, instead of practising yoga.

"People should ask their children to indulge themselves in playing outdoor sports including running and long walks instead of yoga," he said.

Launching a tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the minister said he should not indulge in Yoga and spend time in running the country.

"The PM should not profess or indulge in Yoga because his time is precious and instead he should spend time on running the country, which is his duty," he said.

The minister said there are Yoga gurus and experts to impart yoga.

Wonderful thoughts.
& i thought Yoga is for common people who can't afford membership in swanky gyms.

Off late since Modi government took up the cause for Yoga, it has become a nice political issue with several intelligent ones trying to bring in Religion as well.
Its an ancient science and those who do simple mudras or yogasanas daily would tell how beneficial it is.
Its a pity that when west is whole heartedly embracing Yoga, along with several other ancient traditions (Tai Chi for example) as a part of healthy living, it is being ridiculed in the country of its birth.

. .
He is right, but he did not include older population. Indians look and feel old after they are 35ish(due to all those ghee, sweets and desi food), and yoga is a good alternative.
Its easier to lure people to come to nearby park in name of yoga, and then ask them to do brisk walking.(coz many do)

Some people dont know the value of their own tradition instead they will look
for horizon for others tradition.

We are quite unfortunate because our politicians are world class dumbnuts.

Karnataka police chief falls prey to phishing scam - The Times of India

BENGALURU: It could be one embarrassment Karnataka police could have done without. Close on the heels of Bengaluru police making headlines over their hi-tech initiatives, the city's senior most cop and head of the state police force has reported that he has lost Rs 12,000 online phising scam.

According to revelations, the fraud happened in April and the culprit has been caught.

The incident comes even as Bengaluru police are flooding citizens with alerts not to fall prey to phishing scamsters and give away their bank account information to unknown callers. However, the DG & IGP, Om Prakash, himself did not heed this alerts and ended up giving his debit card details to a fraudster who feigned as a private bank staffer and called him in the second week of April.

Speaking to Times of India, Prakash confirmed the news. "Soon after I got the message stating the money has been deducted from my account, I got the card blocked and lodged an FIR. The Cyber Crime police are working on the case and they have already arrested one person. We believe this is a network and there are more people involved. The investigations are on," he added.

The fraudster sought the details claiming that it was for renewal. The officer gave out his card number and other details. In less than a few minutes he got a SMS on his mobile that Rs 12,000 has been debited from his account.

Sources in Cyber Crime police said soon after the incident, the top cop approached the cyber police. In the investigation that followed, police tracked down the suspect's mobile phone signal and Ashraf Ali, a native of Delhi was arrested. Cops said during the time of the incident, he was operating out of Chennai.

Not sure if Yoga is for lazy and rich but it for sure is not an alternative to traditional weight exercise and/or stretching, rather something similar to other forms of fraudulent 'spiritual' exercises such as Chinese Chi Kung / Qi Gong or Falun Gong / Falun Dafa.

Not True. Not only can one lose serious weight using Yoga, the loss is permanent and quick.

Top 27 Best Yoga Asanas For Losing Weight Quickly And Easily

Its foolish to comment on Yoga when you know NOTHING about it.

I have played yoga yoga for a few years before reaching to this conclusion. It is more about placebo than anything else and now with a Hindutvawadi ultra nationalistic government, it is being promoted as a 'cure of all' type thingy, which it is anything but.

Weight is not lost or maintained by asans, but through achieving a balance between calorie intake and burning of consumed calories. There is an entire science behind nutrition, exercise, and health whereas behind yoga, there are only stories and superstitious beliefs.

Anyone who has actually practised Yoga will never say such rubbish.

The positive effects of Yoga is immediately visible within one week. Weight loss is achieved by the asana's using the muscles to burn more calories. There IS a science behind it, only you are too ignorant about it and too bigoted to learn it now.

Sounds like the man who said the world is flat because we do not fall out and only superstitious fools believed it was round.

It's amazing that something as harmless as yoga is being given such malicious overtones. Nobody is being forced to do yoga, anymore than anybody is forced to fly kites on Independence Day or eat sweets for Diwali.

It seems that for our liberals anything originating in India must be thrown in the dustbin in case it is tainted with even a smattering of any kind if indian philosophy. Everything we adopt must come from arab or the west or else it is too Hindu. But a lot of our heritage is based on ancient ideas during which time spiritual health was considered part of the whole.

What is wrong with promoting yoga? There are many kinds of yoga , some of it is a very good cardio exercise others help to increase flexibility. Nobody is forcing anyone to do yoga.

the govt is probably promoting it as part of the. Indian branding exercise, it will give dividends in tourism and health and general awareness of heritage, which can't be bad. If people who don't exercise take it up, it won't in any case be bad for their health. If you prefer running (which I think most 20 year olds would prefer) then go for it, there is no law that says you can only do yoga.

but i was the ignorant a while back. :pissed:

but the mystery still stands... was the nepal earthquake caused by 800 yogis chanting and doing aasans in kathmandu?? :what:

:D
