What's new

Would Nawaz Sharif be more assertive if he gets relected in 2018?

Do you think Civilian power will increase in PAK with successive elections?

The whole system will be uprooted and a new one planted. All of these current day politicians will be no more, majority in jails.

This has been foretold. It's only the matter of When! Tipping point is not far and people are fed up of this molested constitution that only seems to work for the powerful.

Legitimacy of these so-called elected representatives of the people is a farce since a very small percentage of the voting population comes out to vote in elections (recently). Why? Because they (non-voters) are not satisfied with the current lot whom they view as colluding partners (except Imran Khan) in corruption.

Imran Khan, during the last elections, came out as the second largest political party in Pakistan (number of votes wise). Why? Because the population wants someone clean and uncorrupted.

In Pakistan according to recent polls and surveys, over 70% believes in and backs Pakistan military. This is head and shoulders above the popularity of either Nawaz Sharif or Zardari or Altaf Hussain.

Should the military in Pakistan decide to step in and kick these politicians out at any time, an overwhelming percentage of population would support the military.

I agree. It's only a matter of time.

2018 elections will likely be NS's last. If he wins, he'll likely be more assertive, because he'll have nothing to political lose; if he loses the elections, well, it doesn't really matter.

N-league is unlikely to win the 2018 elections; PTI is going to win.

What is your opinion on proportional representation system :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proportional_representation

I think the major flaw in your whole system is the Winner Takes All (WTA) electoral system that allows a party with just 30% votes to clinch absolute majority. There is no proportionality here and is clearly unfair. It also hampers checks and balances to autocratic single party rule by disenfranchising the opposition.

Just imagine what a 2/3 majority ruling party may want to do with the opposition , constitution or even the army. And gaining 2/3 is no problem in WTA system. Hasina's Bangladesh should be a warning lesson for Pakistan.

And it does not matter whether its PML-N or PTI. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

What has winning an election got to do with having power over military! What kind of power did he get by winning the last election and what would change in 2018?

Civilian dominance over army takes time. Astute civilian leaders can bring army under control over a period of 10-15 years with proper planning. Eg. Turkey. Unprecedented political incidents can also lead to sudden overnight civilian dominance over army Eg. Falklands war and Argentina , Indoneshia in 1998. With successive election people tend to favor status quo of having civilian leaders and stability over military coup. That's not something necessarily bad . Eg- Countries like Egypt desperately need civilian dominance over a corrupt, unaccountable and ruthless army.

Opposition wont let him breath...!
Specially Imran Khan he don't even allowing Nawaz to complete it current tenure.!

And that is wrong IMO. The guy was elected legally under pakistan constitution and should be allowed to complete his term. This leg pulling only forments animosity among different political factions and that's not good for stability of a nation. If a elected leader has to constantly look out for enemies to his legal rule then how can he concentrate on formulating development and governance policies? Rather Imran Khan should push for electoral reforms rather than openly threatening overthrow of ruling party.

I doubt it if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be running for the premiership position in 2018. Most likely his brother, Punjab Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif, will campaign for the top job.

Does not change the possibility of 1 party dictatorship over long term. PML-N has overwhelming dominance over pak largest province and add to that continuous federal rule. With PAK flawed electoral system and typical subcontinental state institutions - that's a recipe for disaster.

Quite surprised at your assertion Sir, on what basis do you say so?

Imran Khan and General Raheel Sharif (or any other future General) are standing in the way of Nawaz Sharif. King Nawaz don't even follow any constitution or law, he just give orders like a king. he doesn't even attend any parliamentary sessions. He just went on foreign trips Four to Five time in a Month. And waste Pakistani tax payers money. Electoral System in Pakistan is corrupt to the core, you can do rigging quite easily. In this country uneducated people win election and Educated people like Ayesha Jutt, Fawad CH (Journalist) loses election.

India RAW was involved in East Pakistan Separation. Modi has admitted it on live media. Indian soldiers were dressed as Bengali Rebels and created Mukti Bahnis to fight Pakistan Armed forces.
Here a link to what really happened in 1971 Indo-Pak war;

The People of Pakistan loves their Army and will not side with any anti-army forces or element.

Media has not reported any corruption issues from KPK province for the last 3 years that means PTI is performing well in KPK and people are happy there. And that also means they are not misusing their Powers in KPK. KPK assembly leaded by Pti Chief Minister Pervaz Khattak have recently passed a bill to finish interest rates on Bank loans for Common People which is a very good development.

I am not seeing them winning 2018 election. PML-N politics will end before 2018 election.
