This is incorrect, British empire was the largest and held the most percentage of world territory, approximately 25% with US, Canada, south Asia, and large parts of Africa.

What about The British and the Russian empires ?? Russian empire covered an area of more than 22 million square km , even today the area of the Russian Federation is over 17 million square km . (Area of Ummayad Caliphate was 15 million square kms) . Also the Spanish Empire is not mentioned .

And if the stats provided for largest empires in terms of population is considered , There is a serious problem ..!! The Achaemenid Empire according to you accounted for 44.5 % of the world population and the Maurian empire made up around 44 % . Now as these empires co existed during the same time period (5th-3rd Century B.C and overlapped each other during different times only in the area of modern Pakistan and some adjoining areas) ) , then you mean that they accounted for almost 90 % of the World Population and the rest of the world (China , Far east , Europe , Russia , Africa and most of the middle east) made up only 10 % !! something that can never be true logically ...

Data is for maximum extension of empire. Persian Empire is of 480 BC whereas Maurya is of 260 BC. They dont overlap....
