indigenous groups in Americas
The name India is derived from Indus, which originates from the Old Persian word Hindush, equivalent to the Sanskrit word Sindhu, which was the historical local appellation for the Indus River. The ancient Greeks referred to the Indians as Indoi(Ἰνδοί), which translates as "The people of the Indus"Hindu, India are all names gives to land by outsiders. And I doubt India is derived from Indus because the name is used for indigenous groups in Americas too. I think India is derived from Indigenos which simply means indigenous. Such labels are usually given to tribalistic people without any strong self identity. For example no one calls chinese, turks or french as indians because they already have strong uniform national identities. Indians divided in to castes, languages did not have one and so were abstracted as Indians. This is one theory.
I think Chenab and Jehlum irrigate more land than Indus

It's not what you and me are thinking but what history is saying.People of Indus seems to be same as saying "indigenous people" to me. Why are most other nations not referred to be geography but by their own self described labels - no one calls chinese as people of yangtze or english as people of thames river.
Chenab irrigate the most fertile lands in pakistan. The biggest agricultural output of pakistan is from Rechna doab, the area which lies between Chenab and Ravi (Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Sheikhupura, Chinyot, Jhang, Faisalabad etc.), almost entire rice production (the crop which consumes the most water) is from Rechna doab and is one of the prime export item of Pakistan after textiles.
I am not contesting what history is saying. But when you say these people are native to this river or that mountain or this forest or "indigenous" - it is roughly the same - the said people do not have an coherent self described identity(due to sheer diversity i guess) but are rather identified by the biggest geographical feature nearby. But when you describe people by what the people call themselves then thats different like chinese, arab, persian, french etc.Anyone please share the tweet to which he replied.
It's not what you and me are thinking but what history is saying.
Word India, not world India.
Firstly, it is Word NOT World..
A spelling mistake makes him a Marasi Politician? What does that even mean? Do you think Marasis are inferior to Patwaris?Firstly, it is Word NOT World... #marasipoliticians seeking attention....
Secondly, where were these #marasipoliticians when indians are still illegally holding Our National Heritage
If these people don't have the courage then they should just keep their mouths quiet.
The word Hind is persian describing lands beyond Sind i.e. Wadi-e-Sind or commonly known as Indus Valley Civilisation.
Our Civilisation is one of the oldest, perhaps the oldest in terms of sophistication.
But we as Paks love to see our Heritage stolen in broad daylight... this process is continuing even today...
Remember that BJP candidate who stole our national song that #DGISPR had to remind these people of theft.
The truth is also the FACT that part of our civilisational lands is indian occupation today.
Pakistan is the Heartland of Civilisation... we are older than Sumer or Persia... these came much later.
It is important that Young Paks remember that Budhism in China- hence the rest of the world - was spread by ancient Paks.
Sikhism rose from Pak. Even Mahbarata played out in Our Land, Pakistan. Loh became Lahore a few thousdand years later... and many more cities. @RIWWIR
Peshawar, Multan, Sialkot and many more towns and cities are thousands of years old... Young Paks own your Civilisation. Claim it back!.
The Heartland naturally became present day Pakistan...but in terms of Civlisational Land... parts of Our Land is still occupied by indians...
Regarding the name of persian hind... whatever the residents of this other land wish to call itself is upto them. We should only focus on ourselves.
Furthermore, I stronly protest if some Paks insult hindus...
Remember without Sindu there is no Hindu... i.e It is Wadi-e-Sind (from Kashmir to Gawadar) has given the world hindu... but this is a different discussion...how we moved down to then forestdewellers of present day india and established our ancient rule...
For now let us just live and let live...
Our sole responsibility here on PDF is to protect Pak and Pak Civilisation from attack of any kind from the residents of lands to our east.
@Indus Pakistan @CHACHA"G" @zulu
Sir we are like frogs confined to a pond...thus we think this pond is the whole world but Twitter has a lot more of grammar-nazis than PDF in fact multiple times over the cumulative number of PDF members since its inception. Is he wachting this forum? @WebMaster check this out... this minister is here on PDF and stealing our ideas. Time to file a lawsuit agaisnt him.
Indus originates in China, so by that logic it is a Chinese river. The Indus barely goes through India and that too through occupied territory where the people get offended if they are called Indian.Indus flows through India before so it is an Indian river.

I agree with what your saying but the reason for this is because it is a reaction to continously being denied our own identity. This comes from some circles within Pakistan, from many Indians who dream of myth that we are all one and outsiders whose take on South Asia is informed by the Anglo media, which itself can't get over without looking at this region as the one monolith British Raj.Don't know why pakistanis always try to differentiate themselves from us indians and funny thing is they take pride in that , as if it is something rare . People everywhere are different . Differences occur because people around the world have evolved under different environmental conditions . Because of this there will always be differences in terms of height , facial features , skin color etc .
lol. That or Indus Lala sounds good. Might ask for a name change?Indus chacha
But that is how it is today. We can't change this now. It's like I said Romania and Italy despite the latter being the homeland of the Roman Empire. There was even a protracted feud between Greece and Macedonia that I think only recently got resolved. But speaking practically - the word India has an ancient history and brand value in world. And seeing the actual meaning of the word the modern day Pakistan is the rightful heir to this brand. In fact in 1940s Jinnah argued that the word India must be given to Pakistan and he had a fair point. I dont like the current word India given to modern India which is really of not Indus. It does many wrong things - creates and sustains a "expansionist" mindset in India that pakistan is rightfully its but stolen away. legitimizes British colonialism and continues India in the same way and infact the modern state of india rules its people on all the evil colonial principles but less effective .

The truth is there are more differances between Sindhi, Punjabi, Pakhtuns, Baloch etc then between Irish, Canadians, Australians, English yet they have and are comfortable with their own identities ~ leave alone India/Pakistan.
And this is quite common in most countries. Turkey has major crack in south east where Kurds who are actually closer to Pakhtuns are dominant or in Iran which often is regarded as very homogenous [far from it] have Turkic Azerbaijanis in the north west or Afghanistan which has Mongol Hazara shia in the centre with Turkic Uzbeks and Persian Tajiks to north etc. This is just a abbreviated rendition. We all know about the USA don't we? Black, white, brown, blue, yellow, red, pink and every other permutation you can think of. And beyond the 0.01% all the rest are immigrants.Agree . In India too North west south and east/north east indians are very different .
