Two women BSF personnel who had shot an intruder along Pakistan border last month were today awarded with gallantry medals here. The Border Security Force (BSF) constables, Rina Kaur and Aarti Kaur, were awarded the Director General (DG) commendation medals and citations by Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh during the investiture ceremony of the force. The women, belonging to the 74th battalion of the force, had shot the intruder at Dera Baba Nanak Sector of Punjab, while he was trying to sneak into the Indian territory. The incident took place in Gurdaspur district on April 29 and the two women personnel had earned praise from their seniors for the daring act. While Singh congratulated the women personnel, Home Minister P Chidambaram while praising their role said that the women jawans are competing on equal footing with men in the BSF now. The BSF had first started inducting women personnel in its rank in 2009 and has more than 700 personnel at present who are deployed for border guarding duties along Pakistan and Bangladesh frontiers. Another 11 personnel of the force were decorated with gallantry medals while others were awarded meritorious and distinguished service medals.

Giving award for killing an unarmed person... Raise your standard people!

When you kill someone in real life you become a murderer but when you kill someone on battlefield you become a hero , more enemy you kill more love you will get from your people. It was like this since ancient times and i dont think it will ever change :azn:

Only difference is India is not at war with Pakistan now. Perhaps still you can shoot at a trespasser, but where is the gallantry?

They weren't unarmed, they attacked the BSF constables. They weren't innocent, were drug smugglers.

We think they deserve the gallantry award for doing their duty.

The BSF has killed about 10 intruders — most of them Pakistani nationals — on the western border this year and seized over 127 kg of heroin, a trend that reflects intelligence reports of a sudden spurt in narcotics smuggling.

You might be ok with 127 KG of heroin being smuggled into your country, we are not.

The OP says 'an intruder'/'the intruder'. Neither the OP nor the link he referred mentions anything about attacking BSF constables or smuggling drug at that time. Where did you find this story pls share the link.
