What's new

Will the World Cup's Muslim stars risk glory to fast for Ramadan?

That Ozil guy specially looks like he breaks fast with beer

If there is a choice, there wouldn't have been the need to make news headline at all, no? It seems a large amount of people have problems with that.

well that's the media making a bigger deal out of something than it is....isnt that what media exists for

by the way, perhaps you over-looked the intelligent answer by the Bosnian team manager (Mr. Halilhodzic). Go back, and re-read what he said. It'll clear your confusion.

Christians also have a fast period before Eastern, but it's a no news matter here, because it's indeed up to the individual to fast or not to fast.

because an athlete at the WORLD CUP who fasts for an entire month is a much cooler story ;)

Well said.

For so many Muslims, fasting and other rituals are for group thing, for outward appearance of piety.

Christians today make lot less noise about rituals. I wish we learn some of these good habits from Christians.

I only wish.

I did read his comments, but you can hardly deny that the everyday life of Muslims ae more dictated by an old book than practically every other religion. I still remember that a a child, many more women wore a headscarf or a hat when they go out thn today, in fact that last time I saw many women wearing a headgear was at the wedding this last weekend. But it was more like at the Royal Ascot.

Would be unreasonable either to ask or force players to fast during the tournament.... & that too in such punishing conditions!

.
Don't Pakistani players skip fasting during a cricket series if it takes place during month of Ramazan.

Physical strength is an essential part of their profession, thus the scholars have ruled that whilst they are there they need not fast.

Question: Why dont they use their own brains to decide this?

does any of that or does the personal choice of those people affect you that much?

. . . . . .
Sure they can fast, they will drop dead from dehydration but sure.

I remember years back I broke my personal record for the 400 meter dash when I was fasting..I unsuccessfully tried to break my record on the 800m dash after taking a short rest. For the next 4 hours until iftar my mouth was as dry as a rock
