Why PM Nawaz had to declare that from Saudi Arabia? Why it was necessary when only 48 hours earlier Pakistan Foreign Office had made its position clear on the issue of Iran-Pakistan Pipeline and mentioned handing over a "Non-Paper" to Senator Kerry?
Mian Sb had always repeated the mantra of his "courage" and "determination" that he went ahead with Nuclear Explosions in May 1998 despite a massive American pressure; but that is misleading because India had breached the international inertia and Pakistan did not need any courage to follow through, Americans had no argument to take an exceptional approach towards Pakistan, since they were unable to exert much pressure upon India. But Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipe Line is a real test for Mian Nawaz Sharif; he must not budge, at least not that easily; he must build up a case. If Americans are really adamant, if this is really that important for them then they need to compensate Pakistan for the losses due to contract and costs of alternate energy sources. But Americans will never do that if Mian Sb will show the kind of "fear" and easy submission he is doing at the moment. He need not announce that from Saudi Arabia...
But if he resists, at least puts up a resistance to get nothing but due compensation for the losses we suffer then we must all stand by him...
Nawaz Govt needs to build a well researched case; it needs to cite Pakistan's energy deficit, cost issues, long term sustainability, logistics, and contract obligations; it needs to cite examples of Turkey and Iraq or other countries, even India managed to obtain an exception for some reliance on Iranian Oil despite sanctions; all this needs to be done internally and externally in key capitals...
