Our foreign minister is expected to be in China in couple of days for consultancy on foreign policy in response to Trump Administration's policy on Pakistan. Discussion with Russia's foreign minister will also be held on sidelines of UN general assembly meeting in this month. Foreign minister is expected to consult with Iran and Turkey as well regarding this matter. However, my gut feelings tell me we're doing another mistake - I mean the consultancy part is OK but we should not let anyone dictate our foreign policy.

Discussion with Russia will not be of any value any way - Russia being sincere with Pakistan is almost impossible, discussion with Iran will be biased. What concerns me most is that, lately, we've been depending more and more on China and each coming day we're becoming more dependent either economically or strategically or technologically and even politically now. By excessively relying on China we're giving them totally false message and that will cause big problems in future and not only that by doing that we're giving false hope to ourselves as well.

Please discuss!

Countries depend on each other. That is the way the world works. You can't say that you are going to do it all alone.

With China, Russia and Turkey we are on one page on most pressing issues. Despite our past indifferences with Russia. Russia is never going to allow the Americans any breathing space in Afghanistan. We all share the common interest that Afghanistan cannot become a permanent US colony. A colony which provides India space to sow instability in Pakistan from our perspective.

Consulting is fine and we have to take the important stakeholders in confidence. They have to understand our narrative and position.

Reliance is the wrong word here. Replace reliance with alliance. Alliances are forged when common ground is found. We find common ground in almost every aspect. That includes economy, military and world affairs. The Pakistan China alliance is a natural one just like the Americans prefer an alliance with India.

China is not a toddler nation. They fully understand the regional dynamics as well as Pakistan's situation. They have calculated the pros and cons. China is making the effort to WIN. Pakistan cannot stand by and let this opportunity pass. Especially when our enemies are breathing in our neck. We made the right decision and we are going to make sure that we WIN in the process. Alliance and not reliance. That is the motto here.

I totally agree with you on "Countries depend on each other. That is the way the world works. You can't say that you are going to do it all alone" part. However, post Trump Administration's policy announcement, Russia have not shown even a slightest interest on this matter. I'm aware of a few low profile interviews but they more like bullying Pakistan and US. Russia have big stack in India and it cannot spoil it by diplomatically standing with Pakistan. In fact, the whole point of discussion is to see the pro and cons of other countries's interests and not to undermine the importance diplomatic relations.

Personaly I think this event should be isoloated as an exception. It's about the USA, not India or other nation.
So it's reasonable to align your tactics with your allies.

Yes, I understand but there are too many other aspects Pakistan should consider before doing this.

Reliance is the wrong word here.
Sorry, I understand what you meant to say but I really don't want this discussion to narrow down only to strategic aspects. I think we should not let emotion prevail on our foreign policies - we should consider broader implications of each decision and action we're taking or can possibly take.
