From 25 June 1950 – 27 July 1953 USA fought North Korea on behalf of South Korea.
During these three years US air force dropped 667 Thousand Tons of Bombs on North Korea. Out of which 32000 Tons were Instant burning chemical, Napalm.
20% of North Korean population was killed in this war.
80% of Capital city Pyongyang was completely destroyed.
5500 Kilos of Explosives were dropped per square kilometer of North Korea.
Comparatively the USA only dropped 157 Thousand tons of Conventional bombs and two Nuclear bombs of 20 Kilotons each or Twenty thousand tons equivalent explosive power of conventional bombs , per nuclear bomb. Adding that to the tally its 157+20+20 or 197 Thousand tons of Explosives dropped on Japan during WW2 by USA. Just 521 Kilos per Square kilometers compared to 5500 Kilos per square KM on North Korea.
So USA bombed North Korea Ten times as harder as it did to Japan.
North Korea still hasn't forgotten all that.

Nor the Chinese. Their troops got bombed too.

Obviously 5.5 tons per square mile wasn't enough to do the job.
