Why Nawaz Sharif banned Junoon group, Salman ahmad explains..

Salman ahmad explains the reason why pmln leader nawaz sharif banned this song....

because this song demands Ahtasab of corrupt and haramkhor politicians like Nawaz sharif !!

Ahmad and his band Junoon suffered political censorship in Pakistan during the rule of Benazir Bhutto in 1990s, partly due to a song denouncing political corruption. In 1998 during the rule of Nawaz Sharif, Junoon was again banned in Pakistan, because they protested against the nuclear power tests in India as well as their own country by saying, "Why escalate the arms race when people still need water? Why see our neighbors as enemies when we are so close to each other?"

wikipedia is least of my favourite sources when it comes to specific information.

dig some news from that era that proves your point, else Salman is probably right !

I wouldnt be surprised if Salman did denounce the nuclear tests......we have several examples of media people advocating Pak-bharut friendship for mere personal gains...the recent example is of Ali zafar who even went to the extent of shedding crocodile tears for peace between Pakistan and bhaarut. Ali azmat who was the lead singer of Junoon also admitted that when dealing with bhaarteez they do expect you to say anti Pakistan stuff.

Perhaps nawaz was junooni on bannig junoon group

Well, demonstrated here. As long as you continue uttering anti-Pakistan rhetoric and praising India.. you get the thanks by the dozens.
Do anything to the contrary and you invite the wrath of jingoism deluxe.
But then that is the psyche of the nation.. an Indian can say that India has problems.. but lets see you dare to make the very same statement even if you copy his exact statement.. they will come up with ridiculous defenses that did not exist when they were discussing it among themselves.
However, this is a phenomenon of collective India..
Single out an individual.. in private.. and see him/her open up in true colors about their country.

With regards to Pakistan, the collective Indian psyche needs a bogeyman.. a reliable , sure-shot "we are better than them" gauge to make themselves feel better on those days things dont go well.
We cant all say this without turning to ourselves, after all.. we too have a collective psyche of bringing up distorted stories of the past to defend the present..or finding a scapegoat for all our sins.

Junoon has been under attack earlier from the N-League due to their alliance with the Mullah's and their dislike for the rise of the pop and rock from the early 90's..after all.. "down town princes" is about a visit to the diamond market.
It was the very same Junoon group that sang "yaroon yehi dosti hai" with that bus on the plank while Pakistani troops went into Kargil. So Nawaz's dislike for Junoon is a bit exaggerated and has more to do with Salman Ahmed's current support for PTI.

Its also kinda like why AJTR enjoyed 99 lives :)

But you are right, in a private setting one does open up. That includes pakistanis too, but none of the things an indian can say in private will get him killed in India, thats not what i've heard from pakistanis though.

So going back to the original topic of a society where cultural intimidation is the norm, pakistan does not have a parallel in the region.
