The biggest reason? Sikhs are a practical community unlike Muslims and can see which side of bread has butter. Why else you find them in almost all the countries doing whole spectrum of jobs. To understand this, you need to answer this question : Which is more beneficial, to have a small province like Punjab as a potential market/job source OR to have whole of India?
No wonder you find Sikhs everywhere in India and abroad.
Secondly, Sikhs don't have issues in accepting others in their families and allowing their family members to marry outside. Muslims? Its very hard.
Lastly and most importantly, unlike Muslims from the subcontinent, Sikhs never had any identity crisis. Within India's framework of federal union with lot of independence to States they can flourish and they are flourishing.
To put is simply, Muslims of the subcontinent are and were never comfortable in their skins. Why else do you think on PDF there are HUGE number of threads discussing about possible arabic, pushtoon and other 'origin' of Pakistani Muslims? Why are there so many threads on 'Muslim Race'? Why there is so much of 'Ummah' madness when the rest of muslim community is not too keen on Muslims of subcontinent? Its simply frustration. Frustration of not being able to accept who you are and where you come from. Sikhs on a total contrast are well aware of who they are and where they come from and are at peace with it. No wonder they don't yell for a separate identity or nationality. They simply don't need it.
The only Sikhs who ask for a separate nation are those settled abroad. Why so? Because they are very keenly aware that they are refugees and guests in their respective host nations! Unlike Sikhs in India who have a home and a whole nation to themselves.
Hence, no wonder Sikhs Nationalism was stillborn. It was killed by Sikhs themselves. There was and is no need for it. Sikhs are a real Atoot Ang of India and I am yet to see any majority of Sikhs ever demanding a separate country.
