Why is India poorer than Africa?

India and China are with huge population, and we could say they are actually continents, it is not fair to compare them with countries, but it is natural to compare them with continents.

Africa GDP in 2013 is 2.6 Trillion
India GDP in 2013 is 1.93 Trillion

India has 1.25 billion people
Africa has 1.11 billion people

so Africa has less population than India while higher GDP than India.
Why?
Anything goes... I am amazed at the quality of the threads being created these days at pdf.

Africa is a continent, not a country. Try compare India to Ghana or Congo etc then come back.

India's hunger 'shame': 3,000 children die every day, despite economic growth - World News
Hey dawn and et doesnot post our comments and links so we post em here
Not so very long ago: Save Our Children: Pakistan losing battle against hunger, disease – The Express Tribune

Figures obtained from multiple governmental and non-governmental organisations by The Express Tribune reveal that around 352,000 children who are under the age of five die every year in the country.

we are comparing India with Africa, not Asia with Africa

And the comparsion is wrong, one is continent other is Nation.

LOL I never said any of that.

China is a developing country, whereas America is a developed country (and has been for around a century now).

China and India and Africa on the other hand are all "developing" economies with similar populations.

When making comparisons, you need to compare like with like. Not apples and oranges.

Exactly and thats why Africa can not be compared with India, Africa is continent.

Sure, but China and India have populations more equivalent to that of continents.

No other countries have a population above 1+ billion.

how old are you...

Europeans also went to Africa and loot, so what?

India and Africa has similar population, they are comparable.
lol... great comparison... jst because population matches u compare, what about the resource, minerals, oil, etc...

where were u 20-30 years ago, when china was the begging bowl, do u have any comparison for that, with africa..

You do realize your country per capita is poorer than us. If India is worse than Africa, what does that make pakistan?

Pakistan's percentage of poor is far less than India's. Also according to UNDP Pakistan has higher per capita income than India. Anyone whose been to both Pakistan and India can tell you average Pakistani has more money than the average Indian. India has a bigger business class that drive up it's average per capita income but overall if you look at population distribution India's poverty rate is much higher, so what does that tell you?

UNDP's recent figures show

Pakistan's poverty rate is: 21%

India's poverty rate is: 37.2%

In 2009 UN Human Development Report stated 79% of Indians live on $2 a day.

We are doing efforts to reduce poverty.

We have lifted milllions out of poverty, and will continue to do so.

Thats good information

^ To be honest neither Pakistani nor Indian should be trying to score points regarding poverty. Two developing countries where the per capita income is both pathetically low. I live in US and earn a six-figure salary and for Pakistanis and Indians debating over $1,300-$1,400 is quite embarrassing, poor calling the other poor.
