You fool.. Every Indian who has access to net is familiar with little bit English.. Arabs, French, Germans are not good at English.. That is the reason Hindi has not caught up on net.. Even Afridi is tweeting in some good English these days.. Go and read the tweet he made yesterday.. That shows how easily people in sub continent learn English

Google to focus on growing Tamil language content on the web

Google also hosted workshops for participants on creating businesses and generating income through Tamil content. The search giant said Tamil language users are one of the most active users on the Internet in India with over 40% of the overall Tamil audience engaged in online content.

Dr Tan Tin Wee, an associate professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS), has been honoured as a “Global Connector” in the Internet Society’s inaugural batch of Internet Hall of Fame inductees for his instrumental role in the internationalisation of the Internet.

One of Tan’s key contributions was support for the Chinese and Tamil languages on the Web.

Tamil has as many web pages as Hindi although Hindi population is far higher. Also most Hindi pages are on Indian gov websites paid by our taxes. Tamil pages are crated by individuals.

Tamil is the first South Asian language to have pages on Internet. Credit goes to funds from Singapore government. Yes, they provided grants for Tamil on Internet.

By the way, Tamil is the first South AsiAn language to have a printed book.
