I am a proud market economy proponent of Indian origin. I have to say that India's progress, while good, is not anywhere near what is required or what it could have been. For two reasons:
* There is a non-trivial proportion of people that lack basic necessities such as food and shelter. All my pride in technological, economic and cultural developments of India must vanish before the agony of a mother who is unable to feed her child adequately. And the reason we cannot solve these issues is NOT poverty but...see next point
* India completely lost sight of governance during the last 10 years of the Congress government. At state and central levels corruption, scandals and self-aggrandizement rendered administration and development non-existent. Fantastic development and reformation opportunities were lost.
Modi, Jaitkey, Parrikar, Rajan et al are trying. and thank God for that.
It is however as critical for more charismatic and honest leaders emerge really soon - right now only Modi and Rajan seem to have popular approval. Rajan is not a politician.
It is vital that Modi prioritizes succession planning
