Why have we failed to promote tourism?

I think Bangladesh should target niche types of tourism instead of trying for mass tourism like backpackers and vacationers. We dont offer much choices for mass tourism. However, we do offer a great deal when it comes to things like wildlife and religious tourism.
For example, there is a lot of buddhist viharas(paharpur, mianmati) in bangladesh which played a crucial role for mahayana and vajrayana buddhism. We could market them to followers in countries in SEA or east asia. Same with bishwa ijtema. A lot of followers from other countries visit us, we should market places like 60 dome mosque or the mirza mosque to them.

Three things that play in bringing tourist to country
1)infrastructure but the most important part of it is transportation such as railway, roads etc
2)people being hospitable enough to accept and leave a good memory on the tourists
3)places for tourists to go such as monuments, forts, parks etc
now if we look at Bangladesh there is a problem with infrastructure being highly congested also are there any breathtaking destinations for the tourists can the tourists feel at ease when traveling and interacting with the people?

Yea bud, the infrastructure was the nail in the coffin for bd tourism. Our infrastructure is adequate, but not enough to attract your average holiday goer from the west. I would say transport is improving as well, most of the country is connected by air and road. However, there is much work left to be done.

The main reason to me why bangladesh is failing is due to its poor marketing/advertisement and neglect of tourist attractions. There is no effort placed by the government to help facilitate the development of an industry near these attractions.

Pakistan despite getting a bad name still attracts 1 million foreign tourists . With security improving foreign tourists have started to increase . Bangladesh despite being safer attracts 250000 annually . Bangladeshi posters asking why Pakistan attracts more is because Pakistan is very diverse . We have the highest mountains , we have deserts , we have green plains , you can experience 50 degrees and -50 degrees . Pakistan as a country is much more diverse and has that exotic appeal to western tourists .

Most of the tourists are probably Chinese people coming here for business work.

Doubt the 1m is mainly westerners.

I know a couple of non-Pakistanis who visited Pakistan for tourism (mountaineering and visiting Lahore) so its not like its unheard of. Probably is mostly the diaspora visiting relatives though.

Yep I agree, with a big population for India, Pakistan China etc, its hard to see how many tourists are "real tourists" and others are relatives.

Thats why its good to take the figures with a pinch of salt.

India probably has 10m tourists yearly, at least half will be relatives

We have witnessed an increase in western tourists . Preferably due to hearing on international media about security situation getting better .

Whats encouraging is to see so many solo female tourists . Majority are attracted to Gilgit Baltistan's Landscape and KKH .

Youtube videos of 10-100 western individuals doesnt mean nothing in terms of total count.

That is a school boy error you made.

All you have shown is that that tourists that visited Pakistan like to make VLOGS

Its still seen as 'extreme' tourism, as if one would say I'm going on holiday to Iraq or Afghanistan.. most western people think Pakistan is as dangerous. But definitely there is more interest or at least more exposure on social media nowadays. If people knew (most of) Pakistan is only as dangerous as any other developing country and some of its amazing sites it could be a major industry.

Iraq or Afghanistan ? I don't think so . For example alot of my Malaysian Classmates went with me to Pakistan without any hesitation .

People from the west usually visit Pakistan to see a different culture.

They want to see for themselves what a different culture looks like.
