Chinese movies, especially those about violences, like to set background place in Thailand, or other Southeast countries. Censorship from the government is small part of reason. The real reason is modern China is not a good place for violent movie plot. Good violent movies should have these factors: fierce gun shootings, gangsters, street chase, cruel crimes, corrupt policemen, evil rich men, drug, kidnapped girls, prostitutes.... China can not offer all them. I'm not saying China has completely eliminated violent crimes. Violent crimes in China are rare and not eye catching. Last year, 4 girls were beaten by a group of gangsters in a restaurant in Tangshan city( None of the 4 girls died), which became headline report in all media. No one would buy ticket to see story like this in cinemas.

For movie directors, China is a boring place. Jungle worlds like US, Latin American countries, Southeast Asian countries, are heaven for movie directors. China is the heaven for ordinary people.

That’s right. China has 0 crimes. China's crime-free utopia is truly a sight to behold. It's a well-known fact that Chinese citizens are so pure-hearted that the concept of crime remains entirely foreign to them. Bollywood, on the other hand, constantly struggles to find authentic Chinese villains for their movies.

No Chinese know what a crime is so they won’t be able to connect with a Chinese character if the character is a criminal, you know. As a result, the screenplay writers have to rely on other countries for importing criminals in their story.

Also, screenplay writers aren’t allowed to show that CCP manupalating the crime stats in China; as this will impact their social credit scores.

In fact, China should produce a blockbuster film showing how the amazing social credit score system - based on a person’s daily behavior including online shopping - has eradicated any hint of wrongdoing in this great nation.

Hail CCP!

Utopia, indeed.

Fearing social unrest, the party has instead used social media censors to stifle criticism and amplify comments that support the government’s preferred narrative of social harmony.

When a story becomes popular online, the party’s propaganda department will send guidelines to managers at large social media companies for how to handle the topic, said King-wa Fu, a professor at the Journalism and Media Studies Center of the University of Hong Kong. Censors then remove popular comments or accounts that voice opinions that stray too far from the party line.

The ability to control information provides autocracies with a counterterrorism advantage. However, in the modern technological and media environments, information strategies must be more sophisticated than simple censorship. To better understand these strategic considerations and the political sensitivities that drive them, we explore why the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) promptly highlights some domestic terrorist incidents in the official media, but acknowledges others slowly or not at all. Drawing on original datasets of all Uighur terrorist violence in China and the official media coverage of that violence in the People's Daily, we demonstrate that the CCP consistently favors stability over the legitimacy. Highlighting terrorist violence in the official media can satisfy the public’s demand for transparency and bolster foreign relations, but our findings indicate that the CCP is only willing to reap these rewards when domestic and international conditions are favorable enough to ensure that the risks to stability are manageable.

When Hong Kong movies were popular, there were many movies with Thailand as the background.

Relatively speaking, the law and order in Vietnam is better, and neither is Myanmar. Vietnamese police often extort Chinese tourists. Of course, these so-called Chinese tourists have reasons for being punished in some respects and thus are selectively enforced.

However, Vietnam's police do not have the same collusion with organized crime as Thailand, Cambodia, and Myanmar.

According to OP logic, this piece of land must be the crime haven.

LOLLLLLLL

Seriously, production company choose which place to shoot is based on the need and cast and crew accessibility. Most gang/crime film would require real firearms (or firing props) and production company usually choose either Thailand or Philippine for their movie because it's easier to access prop firearms in Thailand and Philippine than in China, Hong Kong or Japan.

On the other hand, filming in China requires to deal with a lot of red tape (like government involvement and so on), most foreign production company do not shoot in China unless they have the corporation with the Chinese government.

China behind ‘largest ever’ digital influence operation

It doesn’t matter if it makes sense or no, they are paid per post. 😆

You are mentally disordered. I'm here talking about social problems. Not landscapes.

And nobody shoot movie care about social problems. People make movie cares about money, you need to produce the movie cheaper to expand the profit margin.

That's why most movie made in the UK does not shoot in the UK, they were shot in South Africa
That's why most movie made in the US does not shoot in the US, they were shot in Canada
That's why most movie made in Australia does not shoot in Australia, they either shot in Indonesia or New Zealand.

Only dumbo would relate social problems with making movies.

No. Most Hollywood shooting movies are in US. From cowboys to drug dealers. US is the best place to show violence and crimes.

Our bloke here think movie production is real........that's the funny part...LOL

You can't shoot a violent gang movie in China because there are no gang, as if you can't shoot Scarface in Universal Studio because there were no gang there.....

Man may actually be a perfectionist. He would actually to start a war to film a war movie........he is going to put Michael Bay in shame

I have a feeling you will be sent to re-education camp to learn how to logically debate on online forums.

We’ll look forward to having a constructive debate with you soon 😊
