When can Pakistan have 100% power availability?

Possibly by 2020,we might be with 1-2Hrs loadshedding as like in 2000-2005

Most likely in 2018.

most projects deadline is 2017, and with delays, it'll be 2018. Just in time for election where nawaz will say he gave big relief compared to before.

They can make big changes even now, but people forget the good things leaders do. Which is why they're unpopular at start and sort of winners towards election.

I know but I have a property there and would like to visit without having to suffer blackouts.

Surely there will be closure to this mess? So the country will never be loadshedding free??
Buy a generator and enjoy your visit :)
Loadshedding will go one day

everything is possible if we bring competent govt to tackle these crisis. if i got bugatti and dont know how to drive it will be useless for me same applies to govt our govt has resources but there is no competent person in govt to overcome this crisis. we had already witnessed govt incompetency on the petrol crisis

Iran
Electricity - production 239.7 billion kWh (2011 est.)

Pakistan
94.65 billion kWh (2011 est.)

Iran
Electricity - consumption 199.8 billion kWh (2011 est.)

Pakistan
70.1 billion kWh (2011 est.)
When Pakistan's generation is more than than consumption (that too by 20billion KWh that is around 24%) then why there is a power cut? Dont tell me you have power loss more than this gap and thus making you power deprived country. If that is true then you seriously need to correct your transmission lines as no matter how much you invest (nuclear, gas, thermal, solar etc etc), you will end up losing quarter of your generation.

You should ask when Pakistan is going to privatize 100% of all its power sector.

Its possible, but main problem is that we have decades old power grid. Much of our electical power is lost in transmission losses. The rest is stolen in various kinds of thefts like unpaid bills, kundas, circular debt etc. In order to "fix" this mess, one must enact large scale investments to upgrade our national grid. At the same time, coal based or other cheap power plants must be build throughout the country. A few power plants here and there for publicity stunts is not a viable solution at all. We all know what happened to Nandipur project.

Best way for Pakistan currently is to follow Iranian way. Iran has successfully indeginously managed to become electricity independent. You can ask some Iranian member to tell you how: @haman10 @SOHEIL

they build high performance Turbines for electricity production and they have already carried out numerous plans regarding power plant bulding and so forth

they also work in exporting expertise and technology . Syria , Iraq , venezuela , ..... have all signed contracts with the company

Damascus , holy city of Najaf and samera , Baghdad , .... are all being fed by the plants made by this company .

its currently one of top 5 most prestigious iranian companies @kollang might be able to give more info

There isn't a single factor here. There are many. Most important being lack of planning, sincerity and incompetence.

What causes power outages in Pakistan?

1. Power production does not run at full capacity. They run at 50% or less. They are mostly oil and gas based. They are not paid in time so they can't import enough or in time.

2. Even if they run at full capacity, power distribution system can not dispense that power to users. Not only is it old and poorly maintained, corruption has lead to sub-standard equipment installed which fails often. Problem becomes severe in summers when system heats up due to demand and sizzling temperatures.

3. WAPDA officials are corrupt to their core. No only there is rampant power theft, there is non payment of bills. To top it off, there is this issue of free power entitlement to WAPDA staff. These guys temper their meters and provide electricity to their neighbours for money.

4. Utter lack of understanging by our polticians and people alike of how power is produced, distributed and planned. This leads to weird ideas and claims on how to resolve this crisis. No one is interested in what professionals and economists have to say on this.

What is most efficient way of Power generation for Pakistan?

1. Hydroelectric! Pakistan is blessed. Its rivers run from highest mountains to Arabian Sea. It is cheap, perpetual everlasting clean energy. Pakistan has Total potential of 100000+ MW of Hydroelectric identified and 50000 MW. feasible as of now. That's twice our energy needs. We can shut down all our plants and still would be exporting electricity.

2. Coal! More than 50% electricity in developed countries is produced by coal plants. We produce less than 3%, I believe. And we are sitting on world's 4th or maybe 7th largest coal deposits (estimates vary). Not all of it is good quality but still suffices. Total potential of Thar coal energy is 250,000+ MW for next 200 years. This coal alone meets our energy needs for next 200 years.

3. Windmill! Sindh and some areas of Balochistan are extremely suitable for wind energy. This is however expensive to install and needs advance technology. Pakistan does not have it.

Other than these, rest is bull crap. Nuclear is a dead end option. There is no easy way to dispose off nuclear fuel and dismantle nuclear plants once they reach end of their life. There is always a danger of Nuclear accident. Solar energy is most expensive and only good for far flung areas or small, isolated applications like Geysers, street lights etc...

In the end it all comes to same point. We still have same leaders who will be bought by IPPs and we will continue to live in miseries. Just like they did not plan a decade ago, they will not plan now. So the answer to question thread asks is 10 years if we plan right today, never if we continue to do what we are doing now.

You know... We have great electrical engineers:dirol:

Two steps
1- Bring production cost down.
2- provide electricity to only those areas where the collection rate is above 90%

Not until the present lot of criminal thugs are ruling this country in the name of democracy.

A logical decision economically but unfortunately the others vote too which is why it makes zero sense politically.

Hydro is the most costly option to develop before Nuclear but electricity production from hydro would be very cheap as compare to others. I guess there's more options like Solar, Wind. Pakistan should focus on Hydro and Coal but also others.

It's not that much difficult to end Load shedding if our govt is genuinely interested in removing it, govt can do it in five years.

What would your government be doing outside of what it has done to end the power crises? Obviously, you think they are not doing anything......? How come so many other government and military rules who ruled the country for about 50 years outside of these guys, couldn't produce jack shiit???

Your current government is as business friendly as they come. They've put in tremendous amounts of effort and have started the largest power generation projects since the early 70's (Tarbela dam). So projects this size, don't finish over night. They take 5-7 years. Which is exactly what the current government and international audit companies predict. Also, remember, delays are a PART of a project. Having delay due to so many international components involved, doesn't mean "corruption" by default. People in Pakistan are so paranoid that they think a delay in a project means corruption by the current government. Also, projects fail too and sometime have to be shut down irrespective of the cost put in. That's why they are called projects, because you are trying to produce something unique in a certain time frame that is new to the geography, area or provides a unique capability.

Not until the present lot of criminal thugs are ruling this country in the name of democracy.

Care to outline any proof? Any petitions filed in the SC where a decision was made that the current "thugs" were involved in corruption? Or should be just believe that these guys have essentially deceived the Military, your famous ISI and the Supreme Court? If that's the case, then the ISI's political cell should be shut down or everyone should be fired there and these guys should be hired in that department :hitwall: . The point is, if you don't have any proof outside of ARY and a third class journalist called Lick-Man, don't gossip please. Let the country continue on the economic growth path that these guys have started and let these massive projects turn into reality over the three years. Then....the PEOPLE get to chose who to vote for. Not you and me sitting thousands of miles away.

As soon as Pakistani masses realize that haram khori is a bad thing.
When police stop taking bribes and people stop offering bribes.
When people start following rules and laws
When people stop bragging about their unlawful incomes.
When people start to think that paying fine is better than looking for someone who can have it vaiwed
When people stop showing off their money just to get their relatives jealous.
when people stop humiliating less fortunate.
