What's Wrong with Pakistan? --BY ROBERT D. KAPLAN

Pakistan was an ill conceived idea. So I think it was a bad job by Jinnah, who thought he could just wring a nation in the confusion preceeding the freedom of India.
But in the long run, for India its a good thing. there are still many problem people form that community within the country who should have been ejected out.

Talk about being in love with yourself.....Quaid-e-Azam couldn't have done the job sooner, heel, who wants to be part of set up where caste system thrives in it's glory, where Muslims are forbidden to eat at will, a country full of hobbesians.....who can't see past their nose hence in tussle with all it's neighbours.

caste system is not part of indian constitution. unlike pakistans where fake muslim kaffirs call peaceful muslims as nonmuslims

I don't think there is anything "naturally" wrong with Pakistan - but as Kaplan points out and as one of the guys had also pointed out, Pakistani policy makers have become focused on the wrong thing - that is they have misread what it is that ails their polity, instead of doing the good work of nation building, they have allowed the state to decay, and when it comes to the ideology of the state, Pakistani planners wanted a strong centralized state, but such a state needs a strong efficient effective governance as method, this the Pakistanis refuse to do - for reasons that I just cannot fathom - it's almost as if they just don't get it that it MUST be done, it's not a choice, it's what governments do, what government is for.

Before your obsession forces you to point fingers at others, You need to look a little closer to home.
More than 60 per cent of Dalits are landless. Over 40 million of them are bonded labourers. Dalits are the worst victims of labour coercion
“The 1991 Government survey of India states that on an average day, two Dalits are killed, three Dalit women are raped, two Dalits’ houses are burned and fifty Dalits are assaulted by people of a higher caste.”

. Pakistan claims to represent the Indian subcontinent's Muslims, but more Muslims live in India and Bangladesh put together than in Pakistan. In the absence of any geographical reason for its existence, Pakistan, so the assumption goes, can fall back only on Islamic extremism as an organizing principle of the state.

Neither Pakistan was made for all the Muslims of British India nor it represents all of them, and it was proven right when the doors of Pakistan were closed on the immigrants from India in 1951 and then the separation of East Pakistan was the final nail in the coffin of that so-called ideological state. There are millions of Muslims from India who have sneaked into Pakistan illegally and spread this propaganda which definitely suits their own circumstances.

The first and foremost responsibilities of the Pakistani state is to provide security, education and health facilities to all of its "citizens". The Bangladeshi and Indian Muslims are the responsibility of their own countries which are doing a better job in this regard.

India is the counterfactual to Pakistan's dilemma. India's individual states are linguistically based and thus have confident identities: Kannada-speaking Karnataka, Marathi-speaking Maharashtra, Telugu-speaking Andhra Pradesh, Bengali-speaking West Bengal, Hindi-speaking Uttar Pradesh, and so forth. This might, in some scenarios, lead to local nationalism and irredentist movements, as is the case with Pakistan. Because central authority in New Delhi is restricted, however, diversity is celebrated and has become, in turn, a healthy basis for a pan-Indian national identity.

This language related matter has been discussed here and all you know that the Punajbi mind is impervious to all kind of logic and common sense. Therefore, just sit and watch Pakistan sinking deeper and deeper in the quagmire of self created problems.

At the same time, as Pakistan is primarily interested in southern and eastern Afghanistan, the part of Afghanistan north of the Hindu Kush mountains may, if current trends continue, become more peaceful and drift into the economic orbit of the former Soviet Central Asian republics, especially given that Uzbeks and Tajiks live astride northern Afghanistan's border with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. This new formation would closely approximate the borders of ancient Bactria, with which Alexander the Great was so familiar. Indeed, the past may hold the key to the future of al-Hind.

Whereas the southern part of Afghanistan is reaping the fruits of Pakistani friendship, the northern part of Afghanistan will thrive as long as it manages to keep itself away from the influence of Pakfaujzindabad.

Another over analyzed, negative article and I dont even bother to read this Western wisdom on my country.

Sorry but i don't buy this kind of overview, i would not even call it an analysis of the country. The reason i am so critical is because the constant harping on about the military, about the lack of democracy etc... Sorry sir but we have heard this for years to come, this election blighted as it may have been with rigging etc was a mark for democracy, for the first time in our history one elected government handed power over to another elected government.
You've just contradicted yourself in spectacular fashion! You just said that, "The reason i am so critical is because the constant harping on about the military, about the lack of democracy etc". And then you go on to say, "this election blighted as it may have been with rigging etc was a mark for democracy, for the first time in our history one elected government handed power over to another elected government.

So, it was the first time in history that one elected government handed power over to another. Wasn't it because of your military that has continued to interfere in democracy and its institutions? You surely must be aware of the number of years the Army ruled Pakistan? And weren't they responsible for screwing it up? From the likes of Ayub and that fundamentalist Haq, to Mush who is now being tried for treason for subverting Pakistan's constitution, its been one long tryst with military rule! No wonder Pakistan is where it is today.

Even now, the PA has arrogated to itself, control of Pakistan's foreign affairs, defence and security. The lame duck government was sitting by and watching the unraveling of Afghanistan as even today the Army generals blunder their way into the quagmire they have created. And needless to say, they have sold themselves to the Yanks to fight the WOT on their behalf resulting in more than 50,000 Pakistani casualties, both military and civilian.

Nuff said....

So you mean to say Army is corrupt too???

Question: What is wrong with Pakistan?

Answer: Pakistan is a classic case of mismanagement and nothing else.

Pakistan is being mismanaged both by the military and the civil elite.

Their endless corruption and strategic fantasies have destroyed a country that was ripe for excellent progress due its resources and great location.

Corruption in Army and baboos and elected officials is the same in India as in Pakistan give and take few rupees.

Anyone who disagrees with me, needs to visit the country across the border to see that.

This Kaplan guy should be asked as to when was he in Pakistan the last time, and how long of time he spent with hardworking farmers and auto mechanics in Pakistan.

the whole OP is load of ignoramus $hit by Kaplan, and then shoveled around so "lovingly" by the expert shovelers from India or India origin. Obviously it is their family business and thus the "lovingly" part.

Kashmir $hit should be cleaned. But if it is there for another 20 years, it hurts both India and Pakistan but not mortally. For both of them, Kashmir is far far away from major industry and trade centers.

FATA $hit is there because the country on the other side of the border has been in one or the other war for almost 50 damned years.

Ask Cambodia and Laos people as to what happened only with 10+ years of war next door. Those countries really really got f'd up just being neighbors to the war ravaged country called Vietnam.

Actions of Pol Pot were just like an Islamist $hit dog. If you know what I mean.

The only difference between India and Pakistan is that ordinary people in India will go ga ga lady gaga when they see a gora or remotely white skin. That happens inside India and it happens when Indians go to work in the West.

So in the 90s, when the global trade opened up, India was a quick beneficiary,

And obviously Pakistan was not.

The day Pakistanis masses quickly copied Chinese, South Koreans, and Indians for being good global citizens, us to will be as poor or as prosperous as Indians, Chinese, or South Koreans.

So the bottom line for all the Indian $hit shovelers on this thread,

Quit!

you are all getting your own @rses soiled.

And

if you are so concerned with the well being of Pakistan, try to make a trip, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn things first hand.

Sitting in dark room and talking $hit about your neighboring country is just like Talib@stards sitting in dark hujra $hitting about Hindus.

Hope you understand this.
