The Jet Airways 777 entered German airspace without answering any call from flight security. They werent avaivable even on emergency frequencies. Because of terror alert fighter jets were send to intercept the indian 777.

Another aircraft filmed the event:

In march 2014 a Jet Airways aircraft did the same and was escorted because the pilots had put down their headset and forgot to activate the speaker system.

This is a very serious event and can cause a shot down.

The aircraft was intercepted above Cologne.

Airline industry is a tough business , companies work on loss, king fisher at first actually put decent money in quality, but poorly operated at the end.

Pilot forgot to change frequency when instructed by tower. This is fairly common around the world. Cheap Indian airline doesn't have ACARS to get them message to change. Ground cannot talk to pilot now. This causes Germans to scramble jets for a possible hijacking. Standard procedure, not common though.

Lessons:

• Change your frequency when instructed
• Don't be cheap and buy a backup unit for good safety

If you count the inflight service, yes. The food, the entertainment and good looking stewardesses are all fine. But when it comes to punctuality or sticking to schedule, definitely a thumbs down.

Two Eurofighter Typhoons of the German Air Force were sent to intercept the Jet Airways flight 9W 118 after all efforts by the local ATC tower to establish communication failed. But officials said the contact was restored by the time the fighter jets were airborne.

“Contact between Jet Airways flight 9W 118, from Mumbai to London’s Heathrow Airport and the local ATC, was briefly lost while flying over German airspace. Communication was safely restored within a few minutes. As a precaution, the German Air Force deployed its aircraft to ensure the safety of the flight and its guests. The flight with 330 guests and 15 crew subsequently landed at London,” read a statement issued by Jet Airways. It added that the matter was reported and the crew was taken off the roster pending a probe.

Incidentally, a video shot by the pilot of another European airline flying 2,000 feet above 9W 118 indicated that the flight was incommunicado for 10 to 15 minutes.

The video that went viral on Sunday showed two Eurofighters flanking 9W 118. Sources added that the mid-air blip happened during hand over between the ATC of Bratislava and Prague.
