WHAT IF SIKKIM INDEPENDENT

Sikkim is the only north-eastern state without any history of insurgency. If what you said were true then that wouldn't have been the case. You won't have to look far, look how the oppressed minorities in your country rose up against a tyrant majority.

It's not all complex to understand India has threatened Sikkim to cut of it's only supply lines through India and being a small kingdom situated in mountains Himalayas they had to accept the Indian demands. It's an open secret that India staged the uprising in Sikkim in order to merge Sikkim with India.

Oppressed or the Oppressor? Kindly justify.

What would it take for you to understand that Sikkim's real threat was from the marauding PLA not India, Sikkim was already an Indian protectorate when referendum was held so there was nothing to resort to arm-twisting tactics. Merger with the Indian Union was the only logical outcome if they didn't want to become another Tibet.
By the way, why do you think Buddhist states like Sikkim and Arunachal, and countries like Bhutan and Tibet have always been anti China.

Good for Sri Lanka that she is not an immediate neighbour of China, else you won't be wasting time here distorting historical facts.

Apparently opium has caused more long term damage to our northern neighbour than previously anticipated.

I was wondering what to write on this thread until I saw your comment

There is no need to say anything more ; the last word has been said

Sikkim being an Independent country too, this option can also be considered.

Do the Chinese split their 50 cent earnings with you guys

Looks like a new masters programme has been introduced in the reputed Pakistani universities : MIT(Masters in Internet Trolling) with generous funding by their adopted parent cum benefactor.

How can we know for sure that the threat of PLA was a issue for the Sikkim or to India? It is evidently clear the India had used it's stooges to stage a coup in Sikkim in order for it's submission.

Just answer this question. What was the reason for the referendum to join India?

What kind of historical fact did I just distorted? Care to explain?

What matters is that the Sikkim movement was a people's movement against the monarchy, and that was the reason behind the referendum. It was the choice of people of Sikkim to merge with the Indian union. Their choice has been vindicated as the last 42 years of history illustrates. Nuff said!

You claim that Sikkimese people are oppressed and persecuted, that the indian union had annexed Sikkim with force and guile. That cannot be far from the truth. What makes you claim that what you say is true, show us proofs of Indian excesses in Sikkim or stop trolling and exit graciously.

People's movements can be politically motivated by misleading the gullible masses. You can just shrug it off by saying "What matters is that the Sikkim movement was a people's movement against the monarchy". We have seen enough politically inspired uprisings such as the overthrowing of Mossadeh, Allande etc., all were done in the guise of acceptable ideals.

If the people of Sikkim was looking for a change. Why the hell they needed 100,000 or Indian soldiers to be stationed in their own land? Why couldn't India just let them decide what they needed? Isn't it a open secret that Sikkim National Congress was backed by India?

I didn't say that Sikkimese people were oppressed and persecuted, that the indian union had annexed Sikkim with force and guile. What I wanted to say before and said above is that India hoodwinked and mislead the Sikkimese people in order to subjugate their tiny kingdom under Indian sazuranity.

Maybe Sikkimese people have benefited the union and they may be far better off than they were before. But, one cannot hide the fact India meddled in Sikkim in order to occupy it.

As a Sri Lankan we have to look at such historical events in order understand the underlying geopolitical realities which we have to contend with India.

Bottomline is that Sikkimese people are proud Indian citizens and actively contributing to India's growth. Stationing troops were necessary to protect the Sikkimese people from the monarch's armed guards.

You aren't making any sense, how do you mislead thousands of people by falsehood, people are bound to know sooner or later and rise up in arms. Do you have any such documented evidence of Sikkimese people rising up before labelling allegations?

Lastly, you have rightly calculated that you are at INDIA'S MERCY, regardless of your relationship with China. What better to drive that point home than by mentioning what our intelligence agency did to your economy and polity after you supported Pakistan behind our backs in '71.

We don't want troubles with our neighbors unless they act against our interests. Let's learn to coexist peacefully!

Since Inia justifies its annexatyion of Sikkim on a referendum, why is not accepting the referendum in Nagaland in 1947 in which 98.6% voted for independent country

Sikkim was an independent kingdom. Why on earth did India send troops on behalf of Sikkim people? It raise lot of suspicion.

People can be mislead. Just as you people are mislead to believe that Sinhalese did genocide on Tamils and Tamils were the oppressed. Those are just a few examples.

And further more, it wasn't the 1971 incident that drived Indian policy makes from making concessions to Tamil militancy. However, let's weigh the pros and cons of arming Tamil rebels in Sri Lanka. What has India gained from it? It took a life of one Indian prime minister, It took lives of close to 1200 Indian soldiers and brought defame on Indian military. But, the most important thing was that it drived Sri Lanka ever closer to China and Pakistan.

So just keep in mind that the more you push Sri Lanka towards the wall the more it will gravitates towards China for protection. Who knows in the end Sri Lanka could turn into a Chinese colony. Right at the Indian doorstep. Who will take the blame then? Indian policy makers?

Half-baked knowledge doesn't do one much good. While it is true that post independence the Naga wanted a separate nation for themselves, their nation which was to be called NAGALIM involved areas from Assam, Arunachal, Manipur and even Myanmar. As you see, the idea was flawed from the start and many of these areas didn't even have Naga majority. There was no way Indian government would entertain such fantasies.

But you need to know that the Indian government protects tribal customs and rights via numerous constitutional safeguards. Schedule 6 of the constitution, creation of autonomous councils, article 371 A specifically for Nagaland are a few points worth mentioning.

Hence you see that India is unlike China, whose aim was to dilute Tibet's rich culture and heritage, and alter its demography.

Yes, that seems to be the trend with our neighbours these days.. Utterly mismanage your country, indulge in massive corruption, takes its citizens for a ride, and when neck deep in the quicksand of your own making ask a DADDY to bail you out.

Why don't you become a Chinese colony already? Like that will help you from India's wrath when provoked unnecessarily.

It is said that India intertwined on behalf of Sikkim and cast even illegal votes in favor of joining Indian Union, not to mention all the Indian funded propaganda campaign.

Yeah, that's true the referendum was as controversial as it could get. Lendup Dorji is a symbol of treason against one's own nation in South Asia.

The 1947 referendum declared Nagaland, within the territories of that time, as independent. Instead of accepting that, India sent its army and occupied Nagaland.

I am simply amazed at the level of stupidity you display.. Your supposed plebiscite didn't happen till 1952 the results of which are still disputed. But let me answer your query in a tone you deserve.

India did a damn good job of crushing the nascent Naga secessionist movement by its military might. The 18 or so Naga tribes were forced into accepting the Shillong accord. Why only Nagaland, we did the same in Hyderabad, Junagadh, Sikkim, Manipur, Goa, Pondicherry and Kashmir. The free India that we breath in now, was forged with the steely resolve of our founding fathers. That was how we integrated more than 500 princely states and provinces and forced them into the Indian Union, apart from shrewd diplomacy of course..

So your kind of ungrateful wretches can whimper and bicker all you like, that ain't gonna stop the Indian juggernaut.
