What Dhaka’s transport system might be like in 2019

We can add 1 more year for the project enlisted in the OP. It is very much possible that, MRT, BRT, elevated expressaway and 4000 Bases will be realized within 2020.These projects are now being implemented in full speed.

I doubt that, take examples of your MRT. The progress in April 2018

There is not much progress on the field since 2016. You can look at Jakarta MRT, as examples at current progress reach 98 % of construction physics, still need more than 12 months to adjust electric systems since March 2018, railways monitoring programme software and other software adjustment. Not to mention operational test time periods of three month.

The most optimistic guesstimate you will reach operational capacity in 2022 or 2023.

I was talking about the 1st first half of the Dhaka metro, which is 12km and will open 1 year ahead than whole thing. Still, neither JICA nor govt. is saying that project will be delayed. They are aiming to open the first portion at the end of 2019. I even delayed that 1 year in previous post. If they open that 12km in December 2020, still 30 months time in hand. There is no reason to think that, JICA will not be able to make operational of mere 12 km MRT track after 3.5 years of working .

This video is from April, upto that point, only ground works were done.since than actual physical construction works has been started and now construction of pillar and span in full swing.

1st span of MRT appeared in 7th April, 2018

Thanks. People in Bd have less knowledge on the preparation of time schedule of a large civil work. On the other hand, the govt. authorities keep on promising the completion on certain year without first consulting the construction schedule.

So many works are needed to complete an MRT, like getting land for Right of Way (RoW), bringing in construction machines and materials there, selecting the sub-contractors and vendors, continuous surveying, doing earth works, placing crushed stones or concrete, laying sleepers, and finally laying the steel lines. Simultaneous other works involve building of railway stations, signal system with control rooms and many other facilities. Then comes the electricity supply process and many hundred other jobs.

So, whatever the govt. authority says I am not the one to believe any part of MRT will be finished at the end of 2019. However, since Japanese are involved they certainly have prepared a construction schedule already and they are working accordingly. I have not seen the schedule. I believe that no part will be ready for use before 2022, as you have said.

Not to mention Bd doesnt operate electrified railways systems before, to training adequate human resources to operate new technology is need time, even to made them operational and ready in just one section of six kilometer line by 2019/2020 like what @Homo Sapiens is quite....audacious.

I am not betting in any fixed date of completion, whether it will be completed as per schedule, or delay 1 year or 2/3 years according to you opinion, I consider all 3 are possibility. When concerned authority will feel the need of time extension, they will declare that.Till date nothing of that sort happened. So I am more inclined to believe that first half will be completed by the end of 2019 rather than you or @bluesky's personal judgement. If the authority tomorrow says, this metrorail construction will need 2050 AD minimum. Then I will change my expectation according to their calculated statement. Again I repeat, I am not betting on any dateline.

Historically, BD even have no experience with electrically operated trams, let alone trains. MRT will require a high voltage power supply system. I would prefer a dedicated power station for the purpose. Japanese are supposed to manage the MRT train operation for the first few months. JICA wants MRT's BD staffs to get job training from them.

About other facilities, MRT will need a dedicated maintenance workshop as well as at least two large and wide yards along the route where the off duty trains will rest. In Japan there is no mercy in keeping the trains clean in and out. The cleaning staffs regularly, if not daily, clean the left out debris inside the trains and wash the outside with water jets/spraying. Since JICA is there, I believe they will not allow any excuse for slackening in the cleaning works. Cleanliness is a part of Japanese culture. Let us see how the BD staffs learn from them.

Any way, all these works are tedious and it will take quite a long time and not 2019.

I have checked internet sources. They all say of a construction COMPLETION date of the first segment by 2019. But, these do not specifically say that the train operation itself will start immediately. Let us hope it starts early.

Dhaka has reached the lowest point and will slowly get better starting 2019.
Most transport issues should be sorted by 2035.
2035 seems along time. I know projects get done early in western society, but recently Pakistan completed Lahore Metro train project in under 2 years time. In the last 5 years they completed massive public transport intercity projects in Lahore, Islamabad-Rawalpindi, Multan, Peshawar ( 85 % completed, started only last year) and Karachi ( under construction) . This is in addition to Lahore orange line train.

However I understand that Dhaka is far larger city and more populated than all the aforementioned cities. But I suppose the bureaucratic problems, financial constraints would more or less be similar. So I would be optimistic , I think BD can do it next couple of years if not by 2019.

There is actually a detailed plan that has been constructed in consultation with the Japanese called RSTP 2016-2035. 40 billion US dollars will be spent to give Dhaka and the surrounding areas world-class transport infrastructure by 2035. The first parts of this plan are now being constructed and should be ready by 2019.

SIMPLE MORE VEHICLE MORE TRAFFIC :)
BD imports only about 26,000 cars every year. Not too many. BD has to modify the road system itself by adding artery roads here and there.

someone send me on FB roads in bangladesh are flexible you can wrap them anytime
