India imports some of stuff while manufacturers some, when you speak about frigates our docks are already stretched so to meet the requirement decisions are made to offshore the work.

Many crucial stuff e.g Sam, jets, aesa, aways etc india imports, it lacks capability now, but its changing fast e.g Akash, Astra, Netra etc. China being so advanced even they import stuff.

Let me ask you one question though, which country in the world being a nuclear power begs for survival?

If you think that the mission ( and other similar missions ) were for the reason highlighted above then you are right. Whatever ' Superiority ego' may mean.

However, most others see such missions has huge ( in house) technology demonstrators for systems relating to Propulsion , communication, control , Guidance , packaging payloads , re entry . metallurgy and so many allied fields - all of which have multiple applications in civilian & military fields .

Have you ever wondered why driver less cars are being developed ? Its not to do away with a driver alone. The technology has multiple usage.
