Were all Indians multi-millionaires in 0 AD?

When you meet Hindu nationalists all of them would tell you how India had the highest GDP per capita thousands of years ago and have you belief each Indian walked the streets with a Golden crown on their head. Then comes the Muslim invader followed by the Brit who take everything and leaves Indians poor as dirt.

The reality is most people were rural villagers if one turned the clock back a thousand years and most lived under squalid conditions in every region of the world, including Europe. There is no archeological evidence of wealthy Utopias from those times.

I believe average quality of life in any country today is far better than anytime before. This includes African countries, India and other 3rd world countries.

3rd world are not what they are because of 'stolen wealth', it's just that they could not keep pace with the rest of the world. But that's not to say that they live any worse than they did in the past. Modern tech and essential medicines have reached the poorest communities and life is much better for a modern slum living Indian compared to a 0 AD Indian.

Aye agree but exploitation also played a role in keeping these countries from progressing. Just as an example the Germans, French, Netherlands would buy 1st rate battleships made in Bengal but after seven years war Bengal fell behind in ship building and tech

early forms of steel production was also on par with Great Britain but we fell behind.
the whole of bd had a gdp similar to of Great Britain and Indians are being misleading when they make such claims because only time most of India was United was under Mughals and even then Bengal as a province had autonomy level of a state... so them claiming all Indians lived rich is simply factually incorrect wealth gap was prevelant then as it is now. Most were peasants making money for the royals

Us being totally independent is just 50 years and the quality of life in 50 years is nothing to scoff at. I was a kid, 20 years ago I studied till class 1 in bd... electricity outage was name of the game. It was worse back in 2008 when I visited bd, power gone for 24-72 hours with maybe 1 hour supply in between to run the water pumps....
When I went back in 2016 guess how many times I experienced the same in 3 months? Twice! First time for 1/2 an hour And second time it was just transformer blowing out due to heavy rain, fixed in 45 mins whereas same job would take 2 days when I was a kid.
I agree with second para, people back then just had less resources, tech and knowledge compared to people of today.

You guys whine too much about supposed wealth when Bengal alone was 51% of Mughal GDP
Rest of India was agricultural land, hardly any proto industrial base

Before industrial revolution GDP was basically population. More population, more GDP. That did not translate to higher quality of life. Per capita most people lived like $hit.

China is the only country in the world where modern scientists can estimate relatively correct the quality of life thousands of years ago. They had a centralized government, with ministries ̣like ministry of works, ministry of education etc which divided into departments, with local provincial government almost the same as in the modern world, with annual / periodic census for population and other, with scientifically recorded data about weather, climate, harvest, the price of commodities etc. In addition, China, together with some others in East Asia like Vietnam and Western Europe, ̣had daily record of events which occured in the state, while most other civilizations, even quite developed like Persia, did not.

In most, if not all other countries and civilizations, the figures of GDP and GDP per capita as well as population in the past are just estimated based on fiction and imagination, in most cases very emotionally faked by locals.

Have watched many African channels and they have the same ranting "we were very rich and developed before European came. and then,,,"
