LAHORE: The Walled City of Lahore Authority's (WCLA) third season of 'Wekh Lahore' photo contest and exhibition kicked off at Alhamra, displaying the historic Walled City of Lahore monuments, buildings, havelis, street life and architecture on Monday.

The exhibition was inaugurated by WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari and the VC of Lahore Garrison University who also distributed prizes among the winners of the contest in a ceremony held at Alhamra.

According to details, a total of 453 entries for the contest and exhibition were displayed out of the total 1,389 received. The event was attended by a large number of people from all walks of life, however a majority of them comprised university students who all gathered to see the historic city's photographs.

There were three categories in the contest, Monuments, Architecture and Street Life. The first three winners in each category were awarded Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively, along with gifts. The overall best 50 pictures were also awarded with gifts.
On the occasion, Kamran Lashari said, "This yearly event of the WCLA aimed to create photo tourism and promote the Walled City through photographs. This is one way of digitising our heritage and the intangible culture of the Walled City of Lahore."


Lashari believed that youth were the best resource for gathering photographs and social media was the best tool for promoting it

Nadeem Dar and Arshad Ghauri were judges of the Wekh Lahore photo contest and exhibition. They expressed their admiration for all the photographs and praised the photographers, saying that they had done a great job. Abdul Rahim was the winner of the contest in the category of Monuments. He termed WCLA's initiative a "positive" for the preserving the heritage. WCLA Media & Marketing Deputy Director Tania Qureshi, while talking exclusively to Daily Times, said that the yearly event response was good and she hoped to have this exhibition in Lahore Fort next.

Other than Rahim, Syed Najamul Hassan, Shehryar Khokhar and Adeel Chishti won prizes in the Monuments category. Umar Farooq, Amiz Shah, Nauman A Sheikh and Hashim Aslam scored top positions in the Architecture category. While in the Street Life category, Shahroz Haider, Muhammad Hussain Mahmood, Tayyab Sohail and Sher Muhammad won.The exhibition will conclude on Wednesday...
