Well, I would say that Eastern European (Slavic) culture is closer to Russia than to Western Europe. Even in terms of religion, (various forms of) Orthodox Christianity is common between these countries. My impression (may be wrong) is that Eastern Europeans are more religious/conservative (like Russians) than Western Europeans.

We did in 2012.The current ones may not be the most correct bunch of politicians but they did managed to raise the procentage of absorbed EU funds from 7 to 34% within a year and bring 2.8% growth out of recession.

That can´t be said. Italians are very conservative and many aspects. Same about portugal and certain regions of germany like Bavaria.

Turkey is set to grow at 5% a year till 2020.

EU needs Turkey more than the other way round.

Just because Turkey has high GDP growth, it does not mean the EU needs Turkey!

Turkey has a large population, the vast majority of which is poor. If Turkey joined the EU then a significant proportion of its population would emigrate en masse across Western Europe in search of a better life. But you see, Western Europe doesn't want or need millions of poor uneducated Turks coming to their country!!!

Also if millions of Turks leave Turkey, then it count have negative implications for future Turkish GDP growth! A shrinking labour force and a "brain drain" would surely stunt Turkish growth and development.

The current situation is the best for Europe, which is: The Turkish economy is growing fast, and the more it grows the more it buys EU exports.

In East we have the stronger nationalists,who feel that their countres are being absorbed by the West.

If that's the case then why do all those east European countries joint the EU in the first place ? Wasn't countries like Romania desperate to join ?

The United States of Europe will never work because the people don't want it. The peoples of Europe don't see themselves as citizens of Europe or a Union. But the people still see themselves as Germans, French, Greeks etc. The EU is seen by most people in Europe as no more than a bureaucratic entity. There are too many members in the EU right now to make it functional. Every single of the 28 members of the EU has a veto right to block any initiative in the EU. The current structure is build for 6 countries back in the 1950's not the 28 of today.

The EU as a world power on the scale of the US is a joke. We have most of our gold reserves in US vaults, we are dependent on the US for our security (NATO). There are about 100000 US troops stationed across Europe. Do you see any foreign troops stationed in the US, China or Russia ? When Greece got into trouble the EU wasn't able to resolve the issue internally but had to go to the IMF and that means we needed USD's for the FED to bail the Greeks out ie we needed the Americans.
