What's new

We need to build some really tall skyscrapers in Bangladesh

Why do you always post anti-Bangladesh posts? You guys are hybrid Bengalis with 80% having East Bengali / Bangladeshi genes. Stop hating for no reason nd don't eat beef if you don't like it. Many Muslims also don't eat beef because of allergy or other reasons. Not every Muslim eat beef. we should all void eating red meat. Beef, Mutton are not good for health. East white meat, Chicken and Hilsa fish. :woot:
West Bengalis are all dark, apart from some of the Brahmins.

What does that mean? Anyway, I was only joking about all West Bengalies being dark. The real darkies are South Indians.

It seems West Bengal is making good progress. The newly developed areas look quite nice, such as this one

The roads are clean, pretty nice buildings that seem well-planned, at least at first glance.

. .
Most Bangladeshis have no idea of what Bangal means in West Bengal. You call East Bengalis as Bangal because of language accent and East Bengalis call you Ghoti but not all Bangladeshi know it.

I am not a Ghoti......! :(

.
Bangladesh needs to go up in the sky and down below the ground as well. Can we adopt this technology? @Bilal9

Tokyo and other Japanese cities had malls and humongous shopping complexes underground since the seventies - mainly because of space expense in Japanese cities.

Omotesando Hills was built in 2005 in central Tokyo, and has over 130 shops and even 38 apartments. The complex itself has six stories above ground and six stories underground.

Even small cities like Nagoya takes shopping underground, with subterranean networks of tunnels full of shops.

This could be a great model for Dhaka provided air-circulation and water drainage issues can be tackled.

Cost of underground construction is far higher compared to a conventional multi-storied building, Japan is a very rich country with skyhigh per-capita income, and Bangladesh is just the opposite with no prospect of reaching Japan's economic levels anytime soon. Besides, land is not as pricey or as scarce in Bangladesh in comparison to Japan, hence private builders have little incentive to spend more on underground projects instead of building above the ground. I think it is wise to plan realistically instead of having fanciful dreams! :)

BD needs space/real estate. We need to expand to the west, north and east. That is the reality for in another 50 years we will have no space to walk and no capability to feed ourselves.

Oh you are so laughable. Land is scarce in Dhaka and other cities. 1 katha or 720 sq ft land price in good areas cost 1 cr or more. That is 1 lac 30 thousand dollar or 82 lac rupee. With the land value of Gulsan whole kolkata can be bought.

Land prices put Dhaka on par with NY or London | Dhaka Tribune

Our population will stabilize for around 18 crore by the year 2025. After that you will see a negative growth rate. As people are getting more urbanized you will find more and more free spaces around the countryside. I was surprised to see lower number of people in south bengal when I visited last year.

I was just quoting land price of residential area like Basundhara. Its way more about 8000000 dollar or 60 million taka in Gulshan

Not much, especially compared to central Tokyo! We are talking about feasibility of having central Tokyo like lavish underground buildings in Bangladesh! :D

Btw, I have heard that Dhaka has maybe 2-3 average looking shopping malls and just about two multiplexes, or the figures are exaggerated? :P

West Bengal is far more accomodating towards its minorities compared to Bangladesh, Hindus do go to Muslim-owned restaurants, but most of the Hindus don't eat beef, just like the way Muslim don't eat pork. Besides, because of our inherent secular nature we never ask Muslims to eat pork! :)

And I am not maligning Bangladesh, I am just reading posts of some Bangladeshis, I am not responsible for what they write! :)
I appreciate that and out of respect for my fellow Hindu community members I dont eat beef either.

late Hakeem Saeed of Hamdrard foundation (India/ Pakistan) used to say (to us) your faith wont be endangered if you dont eat beef specially cow. one of the causes of 1857 mutiny are very humbling (Brits introducing cartridges coated with pig/cow fat intentionally to provoke both Hindus and Muslims (this was their time of freedom of expression like we see in France and America re drawing Muhammad).

Most well-off people who want to see Hollywood movies can do so at their own 50-80 inch LED TV's in their living rooms, the rate of people going to Movies in Dhaka has gone down. Well-off people don't go into movie theaters unless it is a few kids. Unlike India we are not avid movie fanatics outside our homes.

Yeah Dhaka has now (so far) the largest mall in terms of square feet area (96,00,000 sqft.) in all of South Asia - exceeding anything you guys have (Jamuna Future Park). Average-looking maybe because it is new but not compared to Kolkata's tiny complexes. Of course being a larger country you have one or two more posh malls in Delhi to cater to the large-scale Chaur and Ghoosh-khors in govt.
