‘We are clearly heading towards a situation India is facing’: Pakistan’s ticking Covid timebomb

Everyone thought chances of Chinese variant entering their country was low, it would only be a few isolated cases, all would be fine in a few weeks, etc. Look where we are now.

The Indian variant is probably already here and not reported. Government should just declare a state of emergency to save the economy and impose a total lockdown with the army's help.
Pakistan cannot afford a total lockdown. We didn't do it last year and will not do it now as well. Govt decision of not imposing complete lockdown turned out to be correct one.

your friend is right, situation is not as bad as in India but it is a ticking bomb. People are least bothered, as if corona does not exist. Lets pray that Allah saves us from this terrible disease.

you never know when the virus could have mutated and transferred to someone.
man be careful; i was called up last year for reserve duty; at times, we had to fire because people would not listen. Can you imagine - one call came that a group of youngsters decided to have large braai party. Alcohol was completely disallowed. Last thing we needed was drunkards to deal with in a peak covid situation.

Total lockdown was a total disaster especially for the poor people.

WHat was worse was some of the local police departments were useless. not wearing masks. Then police stations became empty as covid took hold there. Our issue was the happy clappies who believe Lord has told them this is just a flu. Really pal, when congrugation members started to die, they started to wake up.

Yes we can't impose a complete lockdown. But right now, we are between a rock and a hard place.

People need to understand that following SOPs is in their benefit.

that's the dilemma, India had complete lock down last year, look what happened covid still spread but many daily workers were left stranded and had to walk for days and cover hundreds of miles to reach back home, many died during this journey.

In PK people are criticizing the government but not willing to follow SOP's, even educated people are neglecting them.

No we ain't getting caught anywhere . It's the same situation we faced last year as well at this time of the year when eid is around the corner. Media has again created hype and govt will only get tougher before eid but after it, you will see all partial lockdown measures will be taken off one by one just like last year. As long as our daily count is around 5k-7k, we can manage it

It is the poor who take the brunt of it.

Yesterday, we had been busy delivering food packages to around 400 families - these are elderly who are unable to make a journey. We are now trying to organise buses to take them over to vaccination center - actually pushing for a mobile clinic which our community needs. Our provincial govt is totally incompetent.

We also can't afford situation like in India. And this Indian variant if it ever comes here, this would really be devastating.

until the majority are vaccinated
what vaccines? how many are being imported? how many are being produced here? what is the govt's plan for mass vaccinations? not everyone will be able to afford 12k vaccination, least of all those who earn 15-20k a month, and those are in majority. govt isnt purchasing nearly enough, and there is no production here. so what you are suggesting is a curfew for 4-5 years, without any work and jobs, most will be dead anyways due to hunger.

I hope your prediction comes true.

Relax we won't be having India like situation. People moving in and out inbetween India and Bangladesh is more as compared to India Pakistan yet we haven't seen any surge of cases in Bangladesh so I'm pretty confident Pakistan won't get affected from cow mutra aka India variant.

I think government should build makeshift detention centers to put people breaking the laws for a couple of weeks there..
do you know that a lot of govt offices and ministries are not following the SOPs laid down by NCOC, i.e. no rotation policy, no 50% staff etc (and all of this because of our pathetic 19th century system of kaaghzi karrawaayi, and ages old filing system, if a person is on rotation, he cannot sign, and the file will not be processed, no e-working whatsover)? if the people in govt are not interested, why would the common be serious about it?
No I didn't.. But I am sure that the variant is already here..

If that variant has reached the UK and Switzerland, it's very easy for it to reach Pakistan.. People mingle at the airports/ planes.. and a lot of communities work in gulf from where people visit their countries quite often. It's not hard to imagine that when everyone was focusing on CHina to stop the spread and still it reached every corner of the world, why on Earth this new variant can't reach everywhere with Indians travelling to the entire world until recently.
So why is the govt not halting all international flights immediately? they didnt do so with UK variant, they arent doing anything now. Kuwain main say kutta tou nikaalo sirf paani nikaalnay say kia hoga?
