Bangladeshi electronics and technology giant Walton have set a target of exporting 1 million units of compressor to Turkey by 2023, said a press release.
Of which, the local brand has already shipped out 200k units of compressors.

To further export 300k units of compressors in 2022, Walton has inked another fresh deal with the Turkish company named ‘Kargi Sogutma Isitma San Ve Tic Ltd,’ a renowned brand in Turkey that deals with imports, exports and marketing of hi-tech spare parts for domestic and industrial products with comprehensive range of customer portfolio throughout Turkey and also abroad, especially in Europe.
The fresh deal was signed between Walton and Kargi on Thursday at a five-day long ‘ISK Sodex International Trade Fair’ held at Istanbul from September 29 to October 2, 2021.
Walton’s International Business Unit president Edward Kim and Kargi’s managing director Emin Kargi signed the deal on behalf of their organisations.
Among others, Walton’s director SM Mahbubul Alam, senior executive directors Tanvir Rahman and Mahfuzur Rahman, Compressor Product’s deputy chief business officer Nasir Uddin Mandal were also present.
The ISK Sodex is the world’s third largest as well as the largest international trade fair in Eurosean region for ventilation refrigeration and air conditioning technology, which takes place every two years in Istanbul.
Walton first-ever took part in the ISK Sodex fair with a lucrative stall, set up jointly with Kargi at the center of the fair, to showcase ‘Made in Bangladesh’ tagged Walton produced world’s ‘Most Silent and Durable’ compressors.
The businessmen from different countries were impressed on the high quality of Walton products.

Therefore, Walton has intensified its export initiatives of electronics and technology products.
The exports of Walton products increased more than 10 times amid the Covid-19 pandemic, which is a great contribution to the national economy.
The goal of Walton is to establish Bangladesh as a hub of electronics and technology products.
Mentionable, Bangladesh is the 8th compressor manufacturing country in Asia and the 15th in the world. Walton is the country’s only compressor manufacturer.
The annual production capacity at Walton is about 4 million units.
Walton plans to increase the production capacity to 10 million by 2025.
At present, Walton is exporting world-class compressors and spare parts to various countries such as Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Iraq, Turkey, Nepal, East Timor.
Apart from compressor, Walton made wide ranges of products are being exported to more than 40 countries in the world.

. .

But but Walton/BD don't make any compressors, they buy it from China and call it local. They don't export anything. Only 5000 units were exported only once which were bought by some other Bangladeshi in Germany just to give feel good moment to Bangladeshis as if some real company is ever gonna buy from BD let alone an industrialize country. Walton don't even sell in local market, what chance do they have in exporting.

It's almost scary to watch them put in one investment after another, this company is Masha'Allah so aggressive. These guys are on a roll....

They put in a second compressor plant in their existing campus and introduced two new types of compressors already. They will definitely need them.

I know I've posted these before, but those who haven't seen their compressor line, here is a taste. They are using robotic mag-welding and other precision manufacturing steps so far rare in South Asia.

They are going to be building a new appliance export plant (including for refrigerators and aircon) near Chittagong port in the large export zone called Mirsarai.

WALTON is doing a great job. I am interested in the local production of compressors because this item is linked to many other forms of works that are listed below from an internet link:

13 USES FOR AIR COMPRESSORS
15 JANUARY 2019

Hiring air compressors to drive tools and equipment on your work site can keep down costs as well as help your tools to last longer. But the benefits of compressed air don' stop there.

Here are 13 ways air compressors are widely used in industry, leisure and in daily life. Some of them you may not expect.

1. Inflating
While most air compressors store pressurised air to drive a motor, in their most basic form they use this air directly. Compressed air can be used to inflate vehicle and bicycle tyres, balloons, air beds and other inflatables.

2. Spray painting
Small air compressors are used to power airbrushes for personal and commercial use, from delicate desktop brushes for artists to larger systems for repainting and touching up vehicle bodies.

3. Pressure washing
Pressure cleaners and water blasters use compressed air to pump water at high pressure, enabling more effective cleaning of concrete floors and masonry, stain removal and engine bay degreasing.

4. Fountains
Air compressors also control the precise release of water in fountains and timed water displays, as well as snow displays in shopping centres.

5. Scuba diving
Compressed air is what makes diving possible. Pressurised air stored in tanks allows divers to stay underwater for longer.

6. Paintball
Paintball guns are connected to air canisters that use compressed air to fire ammunition. Compressed air also powers air guns.

7. Cooling
Probably the most common use of air compressors in everyday life, refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners all use air compressors to chill the air.

8. Engines
Air compressors are included in vehicle engines for heating and cooling, as well as in air brakes for larger trucks and trains. Many theme park rides are run on compressed air.

9. Health
Compressed air has a number of uses across the health services, such as dentists using compressed air to clean away debris and prevent infection during treatments and hospitals delivering oxygen to patients.

10. Agriculture
Farms use air compressors to spray crops, power equipment, transport feed and grain to silos and ventilate greenhouses.

11. Manufacturing
Air cylinders power a range of pneumatic processes in factories and manufacturing plants, from positioning, cutting and sanding to packaging and transport.

12. Workshops
Petrol and electric air compressors can drive power tools for personal use and in machine shops. Small tools such as nail guns and impact wrenches only require a small air compressor, while a more powerful unit will be needed for pneumatic drills, sanders or grinders.

13. Construction
Construction sites can power a range of tools and equipment using a larger air compressor, such as drills, hammers and compactors. For remote sites without reliable access to electricity, petrol and diesel air compressors with large fuel tanks will provide uninterrupted power so you don't need to charge equipment or run a generator.

Whatever you need a versatile air compressor for, Coates Hire is the leading supplier of compressed air equipment and accessories in Australia, making any job a breeze.

They are not wrong. Those Turks failed to recognize the superirity of cow urine infused compressors, soon shall they learn and correct their mistakes.
Walton authorities noted that the Bangladeshi brand has set a vision of becoming one of the top global brands by 2030.

I am really looking forward to it. I hope they can be another Samsung.

This is a good business as all industrial processes and even some services for households (like you mention) use compressors with tanks for various sizes (2 gallon to 20/30 gallon tanks).

In the US, most households where people maintain cars as a hobby have a large compressor for tool use (impact nut drivers, angle grinders, nail guns) and inflating tires. They also use pressure washers for cleaning various areas of their house. Bangladesh economy is improving and there will be a huge market for medium sized industrial scroll and rotary compressors for sure, but it will be a price sensitive market because of presence of Chinese products. The value proposition of compressed air driven tools is not yet common enough in Bangladesh, but driving tools with compressed air is a lot cheaper than driving with electric motors.

That said, Campbell Hausfeld, Sullair, Atlas Copco, Ingersoll Rand from USA and Kaeser Kompressoren from Germany all have good sales volumes and representation in Bangladesh, as far as I know (for their basic products). I am not familiar with Japanese brands.

For midgrade products Korean products may be good like Hanwha Techwin. I don't know if they sell in Bangladesh. You might have a shot there assembling these products locally in Bangladesh.

For the lower end of the market (non-industrial and more everyday commercial) Chinese makes are more common. not familiar with those brands however.

I foresee a large need for compressors for driving oxy-acetylene metal cutting and waterjet cutting applications as the shipbuilding industry expands further. This sector is plenty large in Bangladesh historically, they start building 2000 ton coasters in the middle of a char (river island) area with no infrastructure sometimes.

Thanks for the correct information. WALTON can certainly compete with foreign products because with economic development, the market will keep on enlarging and WALTON with its local sales outlets here and there will keep on increasing its share if only the consumers become fond of the good quality products.

I have seen hundreds of varieties of compressors, some heavy and some mid-size, yet some very light hand-held machines. All types are needed in a country. It is only a matter of time when professional people will come to know their functions and their companies or individuals themselves will buy them that will make their jobs very easy to accomplish.

This is what I see every day.

Walton goes from strength to strength.

Great to see BD and Turkey able to strengthen their trade relationship for mutual benefits.
Turkey is one the leading manufacturers of Kitchen appliances like microwaves , fridge, refrigerators to Europe. The fact that an export order of 300,000 compressors has been made , demonstrates their confidence in Walton standards.

Exactly, I hear most Italian brands (where labor is too expensive now), have shifted their production to Turkey, Italy used to be the center of EU in this regard. Zanussi, Kelvinator - even Whirlpool has manufacturing in Turkey for appliances.

One of the Benefits of close proximity to EU and having trade deals with them. Plus they have maintained standards set by EU regulations (Which are higher than that of US in most cases) .
From what i know, Dealing with the EU as a trade block is the hardest. A country like Canada had to go through a very difficult process to sign trade agreements.

For air compressors (not refrigeration compressors) here is the scenario.

Heavier compressors are needed in industrial settings, such as laser jet cutters. These are either mobile or stationary type. Sometimes newer scroll compression technology is used, which makes them a bit more expensive.

iu

Mid-size compressors are needed most frequently in automotive repair settings or light industrial use typically or in the US, in construction, using air driven Nail guns. Pressure of 120 to 180 PSI is typically used.

iu

Light duty hand held and mobile compressors are typically used in hobby use (airbrushes) or to drive HVLP paint sprayers in car body repair shops. Pressure level depends - but is typically 20~30 PSI for airbrush use and 40~50 PSI for automotive HVLP paint sprayers.

I have seen Bangladeshi auto body repair places use old refrigeration compressors, but refrigeration compressors use an lubricating oil bath mechanism, so paint is contaminated by that oil.

Bangladesh has emerged as the world’s 15th as well as the Asia’s 8th compressor manufacturing country
Walton Compressor: Country’s first and only compressor manufacturing factory

Walton High-tech Industries Limited established the country's first-ever and only compressor manufacturing factory on April 6, 2017.

With the inauguration of the plant, Bangladesh has emerged as the world's 15th as well as the Asia's 8th compressor manufacturing country said a press release issued by Walton on Tuesday.

The state-of-the art compressor manufacturing factory was inaugurated by the then Finance Minister AMA Muhith.

With this inauguration, a new era was begun in the country's hi-tech products manufacturing sector the release added.

Use of state-of-the art technology
Walton has been manufacturing high standard compressors using world's latest German technology.

To ensure highest standard in production of the compressors, over 100 young and meritorious engineers of Walton received training from Europe the release said.
Walton Compressor's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Meer Muzahedin Islam said, "With state-of-the art technology and advanced machineries, Walton's highly skilled engineers are manufacturing compressor and its essential parts."

"At the production stage, we are following 'zero tolerances' policy to quality issue. Before the final use, we have made several tests on the produced compressor for ensuring the reliable performance."

"One of the tests is ON-OFF test to ensure that the compressor will have run without any problem as it switches on and off for the duration of its long life time. Besides, wear test was performed for 2000 hours to determine the durability of the compressors' components," added Meer.

The CEO also said that only after passing these tests, the produced compressors get QC pass.

As a result, Walton is offering 12 years guaranty on its compressors.

To maintain high quality of the essential components, Walton compressor factory installed an international standard QC (Quality Control) laboratory, equipped with advanced testing tools and machineries. Besides, Walton has own motherboard manufacturing unit.

In its compressor factory, Walton installed world's advanced Hemi Anechoic Acoustic Chamber imported from USA to ensure the lowest noise level of the compressor. At the production stage, each component is measured with high precision up to as 0.2 micron.

It should be noted that 1 micron is one thousandth of a millimeter.

For this purpose, Walton Compressors are using several of the latest and most precise measuring equipment such as CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) which is imported from a world-class German brand.

2_4.jpg

Production Capacity and Future Plan

At this moment, Walton compressor factory has the capacity of manufacturing 4 million or 40 lakh units of compressors annually.

A team of highly skilled engineers are working relentlessly with the plan of raising the annual production capacity to 10 million or 1 crore units by 2025 the release added.

Exports of 'Made in Bangladesh' labelled Walton Compressors

After meeting our own demand, Walton has been exporting finished compressors as well as essential parts to different countries.

Just after starting the production, a German based world's renowned compressor manufacturing industry has been importing huge volume of essential parts from Walton.

Recently, Walton started exporting compressors to Turkey, which is well-known as the business hub in the Eurasian region.

Apart from these nations, Walton has been exporting compressors to Iraq, Slovakia, Austria and other countries the release added.

The international marketing team of Walton has been working on expanding Walton products' export markets to different regions and countries like North and South America, Middle East, Africa, Russia and Europe.

As a result, Walton has been receiving export orders from various renowned global brands.

Already, a world-famous refrigerator manufacturing company has expressed the interest of importing 2 million or 20 lakh units of compressors from Walton said the release.

Walton hopes that the export volume of its compressors would reach 1 million or 10 lakh units by 2021.

The company is now moving ahead with a target of achieving a great milestone of exporting 5 million or 50 lakh units of compressors by 2025 said the release.

New initiatives for raising Walton compressors' export volume

To meet the global demands for highly efficient, light weight and low-cost compressors, the R&D (Research and Development) team of Walton compressor has been working on introducing a new series of its compressor, which would set up a new performance standard globally.

They hope that the new series compressors would be come into production by the end of 2021. And then, the exports of 'Made in Bangladesh' tagged Walton compressors would increase remarkably.

Walton Hi-Tech Industries Additional Managing Director Engineer Golam Murshed said, "The goal of Walton is to be the world's leading compressor manufacturing industry."

Now, Walton products are being exported to around 35 countries in the world.

A team of national and international experts from Italy, Japan and South Korea is working on Walton's product design, production as well as global marketing.

From the Switzerland based international testing lab 'SGS,' various products of Walton have already received several standard certificates like CE, ROHS, EMC etc said the release.

These standard certificates are essential for exporting electronics products to Europe.

Walton have already received several standard certificates for EU/US regulatory mandates like CE, ROHS, EMC etc. by Swiss certifying body SGS and are probably working on the other EU certificates already.

.
Here are some shots from Walton's compressor manufacturing unit. They started their compressor export in 2017 with a batch to a customer in Germany, which is one of the most advanced, demanding and quality-discerning markets in the EU. Later - apart from Germany, Walton also received some more orders from Japan and South Korea based companies for supplying about 2 million compressors.

Walton set up the country’s first factory for manufacturing compressors on about 1.6 million square feet of land through establishing steel, zinc, aluminum, copper casting foundry, testing and metal processing units. To ensure international standard of the produced compressors and its necessary parts, Walton boasts QC and R & D units.

Initially, Walton compressor unit had a capacity of producing 4 million ultra-hybrid quality compressors annually, however they set a target of raising the annual production capacity to 12 Million units. Of which, a lion's share would be exported after meeting local Refrigerator and Aircon market demands.

In addition, the first compressor unit has a capacity of producing 4.5 million pieces of compressor casting parts annually, which are being produced with advanced Danish automatic metal casting plant technology.

Walton compressor gets ACMI`s Best Award

Two engineers of Walton Compressor R&D department Md. Shamiul Islam and Md. Zahid Hasan pose with the upcoming model of compressor.

Walton compressor received the Best Paper Award at the international Conference on Automation, Control and Mechatronics 4.0 (ACMI)-2021.

The Mechatronics Engineering Department of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) organised the international conference held virtually on July 8 and 9 online.

Walton compressor won the award in the category of 'Machine Dynamics, Mechanics and Industry 4.0 for its research paper titled ‘Determination of starting and running torque and their effects on a household refrigerator hermetic reciprocating compressor’.

On behalf of Walton, Engineers Md. Shamiul Islam and Md. Zahid Hasan of the Compressor Research and Development (R&D) Department presented the research paper at the conference.

Mentionable, ACMI is a leading international conference that aims to create an environment of a meeting place of high standard education, research, and innovation in the area of mechatronics engineering and technology. Renowned engineers, technologists, scientists, researchers, teachers from the United States, Australia, China and other countries discussed various issues in the field of electrical engineering and technology. This year, more than 50,000 participants attended the virtual conference.

University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) and BATCO Engineering sponsored the international conference while the New York based ‘Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) Bangladesh section was the co-sponsor.

Dwelling on the research paper, Walton's Deputy Head of Compressor R&D Department Engineer Shamiul Islam said that the input power given to work on the compressor is mainly in the stator. This stator keeps the mechanical parts of the compressor running. Two types of torque are required to keep mechanical parts running. One, the starting torque, which is required at the beginning to start the compressor. Two, running torque, which keeps the compressor running. But measuring the running torque and starting torque of a hermetic compressor directly is a very difficult task and it costs a lot. This study introduces a numerical model, which allows measuring starting and running torque directly from a 3D design. This will save both time and money.

Walton Compressor’s Chief Business Officer (CBO) Rabiul Alam said, Walton already started the production of the compressor’s model, on which the award-winning research paper was presented at the international conference. Very low noise level, as well as durability, are the unique features of Walton compressor. Walton will soon start the production of a new series of energy-efficient compressors with inverter technology. Performance of the new series compressors will be very high. Customers will get more energy-efficient products.

At the conference, international experts praised Walton highly for various steps taken in the research and production of state-of-the-art compressors in Bangladesh.
