KARACHI – German automotive giant Volkswagen has decided to venture into Pakistan and the company is set to influx hefty investment in Pakistan.

The member of board’s Management of German Automaker Volkswagen Dr. Joseph Baumert met the Prime Minister at his office who assured him that the government would provide all the facilities and help to the firm.

Abbasi said that both local and foreign investors had huge incentives to invest and reap benefits from a fast-growing economy as a result of the improved security situation.

Apart from Volkswagon’s entry, Lucky Cement (Yunus Brothers Group) has announced a joint venture with Kia Motors, while Hyundai Motor Company also plans to set up a car assembly plant in collaboration with Nishat Group.

"reasonable"? how can cars made by European workers be cheaper than cars made by local workers?
Minimum wage in Germany is Euro 1498/month (PKR 182,756) VS PKR 15,000 in Pakistan. Go do the math

So we can expect smaller cars like Polo or Golf at reasonable rates?

Soon, very soon, or so we are told. It just might happen, but the price remains to be seen as to what is "reasonable".

Posted in another thread, but relevant here as well.

These claims that Nissan, Volkswagen and xyz are entering Pakistan are always made by Government officials and are never substantiated by the automakers themselves in any meaningful way. Its been 2 or 3 years since the auto policy? And we haven't seen any new player make any concrete statement, let alone enter the market.

I'd wait till we actually start seeing new locally made cars on the roads before getting too excited. While I understand that these kind of projects take time to materialize, but so far we have been fed news from Government officials only that so and so company is entering Pakistan. Not from the automakers.

As I replied elsewhere too, I think that it is better to be patient for the time being. It just might happen, who knows?

If they make the Transporter/Caravelle available in Pakistan then I will be the happiest man alive:yahoo::yahoo:

Manufacturer plant is always welcome in Pakistan. We should ask everyone to convert into manufacturing plant or leave Pakistan
