What's new

Visiting Mishmi (Deng) tribe sitting on China India border and ask them how they think of India

Indian side standard of living would improve too. Its not like China enjoyed this standard of living for ever. Twenty years ago China was poorer than present day India. At least our side is preserve their tradition and culture while achieving economic progress.
Except that's not true. China and India were roughly on equal footing in the 1980's, but certainly not 20 years ago. China will be 6 times the size of Indian economy at the end of this year.

China GDP in 2000 was 1.21 trillion. India of 2020 is 3 trillion. China GDP crossed India in 1991.

China opened its economy in 1978
While India in 1991 (13 years later to China).

China GDP in 2006 was less than 3 trillion (2.75 trillion). (I know it is not current dollar but still we are not far behind). You are really misinformed about India and overestimate China.

Sometimes it is better to gain some knowledge.

Except your knowledge is absolute garbage. I like how you cite 2006 GDP as a benchmark, without mentioning growth rate that year. China grew nearly on average 10% a year from 2001 to 2007. You're shrinking currently and never managed to crack 8.2% in your finest year.

:what: Do you Indians think a dollar in 2006 is worth the same as a dollar in 2020?

Do you guys have comprehension problem? Do you not see this?

That's why never trust Indian GDP numbers, China in 2000 looked way more developed than India today.

Was 1990 twenty years ago? Who is your math teacher?
Lol. You were sure India resembled 1980's China. I showed you 1990 china it looked like Bangladesh.

Do you actually study your own graphs? India in 2015 had the same real GDP as China in 2004 per your own graph. You are betting on India not growing as fast from here on. Thst is just your assumption. But clearly as of now we are atleast at 2005 China level.
You were talking about China 20 years ago, not 1980's, but still, India has vast regions now still look even worse than China in 1960's.
Yes, China in 1960's had 22 cities with metro. Sure they were buying 3 milion cars. 131 million people flying domestically every year. Clearly they were all missing in the 1990's video. Majority were riding bicycles on that day for fun. Don't be an idiot.

This is the comment I replied to. And posted 1990 video to.

Do you see? or are you playing blind?

I think saying india lag behind China by 20 years is probably fair.
But india really have to work on infrastructure. For example, this crappy non-ac bus is no different from buses in the 1960s:
And we do not have people sit on the roof of a train even in the 1930s...

I said vast part of India, even in today's India vast regions don't have stable running water supply, Mumbai slums look worse than any place in the world at any give time in the human history.

I accept our cities have poor infrastructure. India's public infrastructure in general is poor because of popular politics and corruption.

However, Indians in general are not as poor as you can see in the numbers be it GDP, budgets, consumption.

We cannot just dismantle those slums. Our politicians play politics for their votes.

"The latest urban redevelopment plan proposed for the Dharavi area is managed by American-trained architect Mukesh Mehta[10] The plan involves the construction of 2,800,000 square metres (30,000,000 sq ft) of housing, schools, parks and roads to serve the 57,000 families residing in the area, along with 3,700,000 square metres (40,000,000 sq ft) of residential and commercial space for sale.[17] There is still a significant local opposition to the plans, largely because existing residents still feel 33 square metres (350 sq ft) of revised permanent alternate accommodation per tenant is not adequate each. Furthermore, only those families who lived in the area before 2000 are slated for resettlement. Concerns have also been raised by residents who fear that some of their small businesses in the "informal" sector may not be relocated under the redevelopment plan. Due to this opposition, a trust has been proposed called the Dharavi Community Land Trust that will be made up of community members, landowners and neighborhood associations."

In China this consultation does not happen. Its just the political system that is the enabler for such slums.

"To make the redevelopment more economically viable, the state government's plan is involving transforming the region into a hub for commercial and business activity. Dharavi is close to the Bandra Kurla Complex, which is India's richest business district and one of the richest in Asia."

It is infact a tribute to India that such slums are still allowed to be in such a central location. Spending some $4 billion in prime real estate is not a big deal. Its just people there are opposed to it and politicians wants their votes. And we got damn NGO's spreading misinformation. Had it been China they would have no say in the matter.

West criticizes us for not rehabilitating slums yet when we try the western NGO's will collude with locals to stop such developments.

Also these 57000 families residing there generate a $1 billion in revenues every year. They are not as poor as you think. I hate to say this, we all just look poor, more than we are.

"Dharavi has an active informal economy in which numerous household enterprises employ many of the slum residents[5]—leather, textiles and pottery products are among the goods made inside Dharavi. The total annual turnover has been estimated at over US$1 billion.[6]"

Glorious slums, the proud fruit of Indian democracy.
