Visit of USS Hamilton to build strategic Indo-US ties: Barsano

VASCO: The commanding officer of USS Paul Hamilton, Commodore John Barsano has said that the visit of USS Paul Hamilton to India will strengthen ties between India and the United States of America.
Speaking to media persons onboard the guided missile destroyer, Commodore Barsano said, “The visit of USS Paul Hamilton would also help to build a strong relationship between the US and India thereby exchanging advanced technology between both navies.”
The guided-missile destroyer USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60) is on a five-day visit to Goa and is presently anchored at Mormugao Port Trust.
The Commodore disclosed that USS Paul Hamilton has around 320 crew members (sailors) on board and the navy will be involved in theater security cooperation and maritime presence operations with partner nations.
He further informed that during their stay in Goa, the sailors on board USS Paul Hamilton will hold a reception with the aviation wing of the Indian Navy besides playing basketball and football with the sailors of the Indian Navy. Commodore Barsano and other officials onboard the US ship displayed advanced equipments and other fighting capabilities to the media during their visit on Wednesday morning.
Paul Hamilton is a multi-mission ship designed to operate independently or with an associated strike group. The ship is assigned to Destroyer Squadron 21 and is home ported in Hawaii within the US 3rd Fleet area of operations. USS Paul Hamilton is an Arleigh Burke Class of the US Navy. The ship will sail back to America on March 21.
Meanwhile, Admiral Sir George Zambellas, First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff, Royal Navy arrived in Goa on Wednesday on a day’s visit.
Admiral Zambellas was received by Flag Officer Commanding Goa Naval Area Rear Admiral Balvinder Singh Parhar at Headquarters Goa Naval Area.
The Indian Navy and the Royal Navy cooperate with each other in technical training, anti-piracy patrols and Navy to Navy staff talks.
The two navies have been exercising together at sea since 2004. Warships from both navies call at each other’s ports, which provide excellent opportunity for professional
