Virat Kohli v AB de Villiers career facts

  • Virat Kohli made his International debut (ODI vs Sri Lanka on 18 August 2008) nearly 4 years after AB de Villiers (Test vs England on 17 Dec 2004).
  • In terms of prominent World records, AB de Villiers own the fastest ODI century which he made off just 31 balls against West Indies in 2015.
  • Virat Kohli was fastest to 7000 ODI runs, reaching the mark in 161 innings while AB was second fastest to 7000 ODI runs, in 166 innings and fastest to 8000 in 182 innings. Hashim Amla will almost certainly break all these records.

I see the English desperately pushing Root's name a lot. Do you guys think he's special? I have never seen an English batsman I would like to watch batting except David Gower.

.
Both are some of the finest players of cricket.

I have always regarded both of them as probably the best players these two nations have ever produced

Hashim Amla was equally good but his performance has not as par since past 2 years or so...

Are you saying Virat is better than Gavaskar and Dravid?

Please man. Way way way too early for that.

.
i would compare them like. de villiar record in india VS kohli record in south africa.
because in indian wickets you can score double hundred regularly while in south african conditions i doubt that everyone can score much.

gavaskar, tendulkar, dravid, ganguly were all better than kohli. i can guarantee kohli can't even score 3 hundreds against, pakistani or australian bowling of that time.
and not to forget murali and poles of WI.

Tendulkar I personally never liked to be honest. Not in the way I followed Dravid from the very beginning. And I grew up watching test matches on black and white TV at a neighbor's house in the Gavaskar era. Ganguly was a great captain and a stylish southpaw. He definitely does not belong in the above list though.

I am not saying,

He actually is better than both Gavaskar and Dravid. He has already proven his worth and will be regarded as the legends of this century/decades. By the time he reaches half the figure of Sachin Tendulkar's number of matches, he will have put his stats to the shame, he really is that good. Technically and temperamentally he is much more tough and have played crucial innings despite still being in 20s

.
With that logic how will you ever compare records of pakistani players because no one comes to play there:rofl::rofl::omghaha::omghaha:
but it don't change the fact that de villiers played most of his cricket in difficult batting conditions.

How many matches has babar azam played ??????:omghaha::omghaha::omghaha::omghaha:
babar azam averaged above 40 in all formats while your kohli was sitting at 19 at exact stage.

he was good. probably the best opener india had at that time. tendulkar was technically too good. always straight bat.
Dravid was loved in pakistan the most for his batting. i still remember he was the one who would stand on the wicket after our finest bowlers used to get rid of other batsmen in first few overs.

Cricket has changed so much that it is really hard to compare across eras.

You may be right. Time will tell. But Virat will never face up to the kind of bowling Sunny did. And with a foam skull cap and floppy hat at that.

Indeed that is why I have always regarded Saeed Anwar being the best player from Pakistan for the last 20 or so years, simply due to the fact that his stats do not justify his performances.

There was a time when 250 was considered above par score and any team achieving 250 meant that they are likely to win 95 out of 100 times... Nowadays even 350 is no longer safe, the bats have gone bigger, the pitches have become batsmen friendly and mindset has been to score runs rather than develop innings....

So much has changed so that value 40 odd runs of 1990s weighs more than 80 in 2016...

Saeed Anwar was very good. Always a crucial wicket for us.
